Not super OCD when it comes to the different versions but I don’t want to mix the slightly different diameter chips within denoms. So, I’m looking to trade some.

What I have:

- 1 rack of $5s v.1 in excellent condition (regular diameter)
- 8 x $25s v.5 in excellent condition (slightly larger diameter) Traded!
Would also be happy to buy a rack of the v4 $5s if you don’t need the trade.

What I’m looking for (in matching condition):

- 1 rack of $5s v.4 (slightly larger diameter)
- 8 x $25s any version with regular diameter

Here are the different versions for reference:

Thanks for looking!

Edit: only trading with people I ”know” and/or that are established members.

Edit again: with the 5s, I’d do the other way too. Like if you have 2 racks of v1s that you’d be willing to trade for my v4s. I just want them to match, don’t care which version I have.

Interesting. I knew there were color variations, but I had no idea about the diameter variations. I suppose that is rather tilting...

I’m also in the process of acquiring another BCC set, and am now afraid of what all I will encounter with respect to diameter variance. I can put up with color variation, but I don’t know about different diameter.

I did not know this at all. I presently have a set of MGK mold BCCs, and while color variation is definitely present, there is no diameter variance to speak of. Perhaps I need to take a closer look…

For what it's worth, I would be surprised if you run into this in a non-Protege set. Even with Protege it's relatively uncommon. It seems to be a consequence of Protege being mass produced at different factories and sometimes in different years. For sets that were produced all at once, it seems far less likely.

Worth quite a bit, sir. I know how much you admire these chips. I’m also a huge fan but still a relative newb. My present set is a Captial Room.

Coincidentally, I am planning on purchasing a small BCC Protege set.

Thanks for sharing the information

Unfortunately, the phenomenon is not unique to the Protégé chips. Although their issues may be the best documented thanks to @Joe Harris, here are some other sets that I am personally aware of having diameter variations:

BCC Grand Cardroom MGKs (variations in the $1s and some $100s; unsure of other denominations)
BCC Mardi Gras V2 T-molds (I don't know how widespread this is, but in my sample set the 25c, $1, and $5 chips have a smaller diameter than the other denominations)
BCC High Roller Club on the Flame Mold / Shell Mold (there were multiple production runs, and so far as I know the chips were consistent within production runs but there are small and large diameter sets out there)

When it comes to BCC, I could never bring myself to place a custom order or jump in on a group buy because it felt like too much of a gamble. Knowing what I know now, the gamble was worth it much more often than not. When it comes to buying BCC sets today, the juice is worth the squeeze, but it's best to head into it with your eyes wide open.

To bring things back on topic, thanks for the $25s @Eriks! They arrived lightning fast for international shipping.

The awsome thing about BCC Protege (besides the chips) are the owners.
Most if not all interactions with that that small group have been driven by the love of those chips and never about profit, value and flipping.

And yes, there are many flaws but for those that are willing to build and correct the issues…a one of a kind set is the reward.

Thanks at all fellow Protege friends

+1

The Protege family also re-opened up their arms to a certain dumbass Swede who sold his cash and tourney sets, but wanted to get back in the game once he realized what he had done
