Absolutely delicious! I LOVE these chips and I can’t believe I found em!

This was a private offer and seller never posted for feedback, so I won’t name them here, but if you are reading…MANY THANKS! They are in a good home. They will join a healthy family of other Detroits I got.

I know it can be exhilarating to find deals like this.

But really?

A wealthy guy like you winning million dollar pots on tv poker and you're going to take advantage of a poor kid trying to pay off his cell bill? Selling off his grandpa's possessions? You feel good giving him just $60 for 390 trks?

Not something to brag post about.

Interesting. I think you misread this. I didn’t even know about these chips or that they were for sale. I bought them for @colter ripton , who asked me if I’d take delivery of some chips in LA. They’re being sent straight to him. I’d do the same for anyone else I know on here who asked.

That said, had I personally seen the ad, and contacted him first to buy it, I honestly don’t know what I would have done. It’s possible I may have given him an extra couple hundred bucks, but unfortunately, that wasn’t the situation — I don’t think I have the right to automatically up someone else’s deal price because the seller doesn’t know what he has.

Thanks for clarifying.

That is a difficult situation. I'm not sure blowing up another chippers find is the way to go.

But after learning about the seller's potential difficult financial situation, I wouldn't feel good about knowing this kid is being taken advantage of because of his ignorance.

I know we should have loyalty to our friends and fellow chippers. But where's the humanity? Let's treat people better.

Some valuable lessons to be learned here. I’ve had my fair share of dust ups with Krish over the last year so hopefully this is taken the right way. I had a similar reaction to his Goodwill find, but decided to reflect on it more rather than letting my frustration influence my response.

The cynic in me believes Krish would take every opportunity he had to boast about a financial contribution to an organization like Goodwill. The optimist in me believes the most genuine contributions are made without a public declaration.

I relied on what I knew for sure:

1) I know comparatively little about Krish outside of PCF, so questioning his character feels wrong to me (I have certainly errored in doing this before).

2) While I believe @TheDuke comments came from the right place, I know that publicly shaming someone will not change who they are; it will only strengthen their resolve.

Ultimately, I believe the best way to effect positive change is by showing people what it looks like, rather than what it doesn’t.

Okay, @Ben8257 you can have your mic back. Back to the chips!

Look; we don’t always see eye to eye; but I’ve always responded to your negs with logic and / or respect, and I’ll try l do the same here.

I’m trying to understand your point. So now, we need to let people who post ads on Facebook know that they underpriced something? Especially when we had nothing to do with finding the said ad?

Would you say the same to someone who wasn’t wealthy? Or are you implying that because I have money, I should have kept the deal for the fellow chipper, and given him some extra cash myself?

I fully agree with you about showing people humanity. But you’re also making assumptions from one sentence I wrote about a purchase / find that was made.

The kid has an unpaid phone bill, not an ER bill. I don’t know the circumstances that led him to not paying his bill. He rolled up in a muscle car, and wore new hightop Jordans, so he couldn’t be that badly off. His Jordans would have sold for more than $30, so maybe he was just selling things around the house?

I have no idea.

I think chastising someone for helping a chipper get some chips at an advertised price, and doing so based on incomplete information is a bit much.

I don't feel it's anyone's responsibility to educate another as to the value of a collectible. Value is subjective and heavily reliant on current the status of the market. Prices fluctuate. If you bought something and it's overpriced or the value goes down, do you then ask the seller for the money back? Doubt it. So It has to work both ways when finding items currently undervalue. I think these kind of finds make the hobby interesting regardless of the buyer's wealth or the circumstances of the seller.

I think the lesson we should all draw from this is that Krish should definitely sell me those South Tahoe TRKs. I'll even pay double his purchase price. I mean, even if we can't agree as to redistribution of wealth, can we at least agree as to equitable redistribution of TRKs? Given the distinct lack of them here in Alabama, and the apparently vast numbers in California (people are just giving them away!), I think we can all agree that this is fair.

Also, if someone can't be bothered to spend 10 minutes on google to find out roughly what the value of something is, I don't have much sympathy for them. I will, and have, gladly bought things well below market from folks who didn't know the value of what they were selling. Hell, I tried to buy the same TRKs Krish picked up for @colter ripton myself.

I'd point this out to any member here. Rich, richer, or ultra wealthy. Poor people don't hang out on hobby sites like this.

Maybe you're being too sensitive? Maybe I'm being too indignant?

Your post came off like a brag. "Hey look, great deal on some trks. Poor sob didn't realize what he had. But I threw him an extra $20".

Truthfully, it's no one's responsibility to educate people on items they're clearing out of the closet. Fuck 'em if they're too dumb to google it.

I think what may have irked me was the detail he needed the cash to pay off his cell bill. And they were his grandfather's chips. It seemed so flippant. But maybe I'm being too indignant again.

Why not include from the start the fact he came in his helicopter that was piloted by his butler who was wearing diamond shoes? That would have eased my mind.

Simple. One is stated information from the seller.

“Where did you find these chips?”
“They’re my grandfather’s”.
“Oh cool. Why are you selling them?”
“I need to pay Metro PCS.”

That felt relevant to share, since it was part of the story he told me.

What he drove in and wore on his feet? That’s an observation. Didn’t seem relevant. Of course, if I had included that, you would have made a comment about me including it to deflect from the idea of fleecing him. I doubt you would have said it “eased your mind.”

PS: isn’t the entire pr0n section a bunch of brags? About deals? About finds? About collections? Aren’t our resources like “biggest chipset per casino” a bunch of brags? Aren’t threads like “one of a kind racks” brags?
