I'm in the market for a 1000 chip cash set of Paulsons. Budget is under 2k including the higher denoms.

Ideal Breakdown:
$1: 300
$5: 400
$25: 100
$100: 100
$500: 60
$1k: 20
$5k: 15
$25k: 5

Everything past the $100 chips is a nice to have. The $1's and $5's are solid numbers and won't budge there.

If I can find a set from a member I will go that route. If not I will look for something small to get me by and wait for a new large casino liquidation sale.

Nice breakdown - but for that budget this will be a real struggle. The Majestic Star chips might be your only option.

ditch the 1k 5k and 25k as they are melting your options. is this a 1/2 set??
I might catch heat for this but my plan is to play 1/2 with a $40 buy in that gets $400 in chips. Actual value will be 10% of chip value. I can use the same set for tourney or other games as play evolves.

This will be a solid plan

many people will tell you using the same cash game chips and tournament chips is a big no-no for security reasons.

ok so the stakes are essentially $0.10/$0.20?

I hear ya. Yes, $.1/$.2
i think having the whole chip is 10x actual value thing is really confusing. i have done it before and it didn't really work.

if you are playing .10/.20, something like this would work perfectly fine:

10c x 500
$1 x 300
$5 x 160
$20 x 40

i would recommend buying the ones and fives normal, then get some chips to use as a 10c chip, remove the labels and get custom ones made. this will be waaay in your budget and could probably complete a nice set for sub $1000.

We play 1/2 10 cents on the dollar all the time and it works great as long as people bet using the face amount. The only time the 10 cents on the dollar comes into play is when you buy in for $20 and get $200 in chips and when you cash out you get $20 for $200 in chips. We play the game using the face value of the chips so it plays just like a 1/2 game. So you bet $12 not $1.20. As long as everyone follows this it goes ok. It's only when people start betting different ways then it can become a problem.

I would recommend different chips for the tournaments vs the cash games.

They aren't all sold out, but some chips are sold out. Sad face.
What, the $1ks and $5ks? You're kidding, right?
For some crazy reason, those chips have flown under the radar for years now. There are NEVER Paulson chips available off the shelf, a la carte, at any price, let alone the best price in town. The next time that large casino liquidation that you're waiting for actually happens (could be next month or next year) you'd be lucky to get the chips at those prices. And we've seen plenty of chip room sales where $1ks and $5ks weren't even offered. And when they are, they sell lighting fast.
What I'm trying to say is that at the prices you're looking to pay, you're in a beggars can't be choosers situation, and you should be thrilled those chips are available. Not that I'd discourage you from getting samples first - if you're looking to drop a grand or two on poker chips, you definitely should check them out first to make sure that you like them. But if you're looking for Paulsons - these are them. 39mm RHC chips - that's 90% of what's on the market and exactly the same chips you're likely to see the next time somebody buys out a casino and offers the chips for sale.

I just want to add I have 3 cash sets that play at 100x and one cash set that plays at 1000x. The players love the high stakes feel though the higher denom chips do tend to cost a lot more than regular $1s and $5s.

Solid hot stamps are probably the most realistic for your breakdown or for more color perhaps those majestic star 1000 chip sets on Apache or similar.... would get the job done. Like others have said the 500/1k+ are beyond the budget/breakdown set out. A good time to look for deals is just prior to a Chiproom sale when members are selling sets to buy more sets....

You really only need 4 denominations $1,$5,$25 & $100 for $1/$2 or 10/20c game

You will be able to afford more budget per chip this way as $1k and above are usually 43mm IRC where they cost double digit per chip

$500-$25k in your requested number is going to use up 40% of your $2k budget when they just highly unlikely going to be felt in a $1/$2 game anyway
