I secure all my passwords in an Excel spreadsheet with an extra layer of protection. If there is interest, I can also make a detailed post about it.

PS:
This is only really effective if you have numbers in your passwords which I guess you all have.

does it even matter if you have a weak password if you are using 2FA? really just curious.
It doesn’t matter as much but the theory of multi-factor is based on A) creating multiple separate verifications needed but also B) trying to make those each as strong as each other.

Email second factor is generally considered a lot weaker than a phone app second factor. So most things encourage you to use phone 2FA so that factor can be as strong as makes sense (you could come up with much stronger factors but they limit access/feasibility)

Yes in many cases it’s not too likely to matter, but it quite quickly can.

In that vein, having a strong password is better. No one can guess my password to PCF no matter how well they know me or any of my other passwords unless it’s the master password to Bitwarden. I can’t accidentally write it down or type it into the wrong field because I don’t even know it. Only BW does.

Can I ask about the extra layer of protection? (Hoping it’s not password protected excel sheets)

Will do, gonna take the time to write up part of it well but I’ll tag you and get it up soon.
I have a Synology NAS and can install BW into a Docker container but have never been able to get the self hosting aspect to work. If you know about this at all I would be very interested.

Wtf is a Password Manager if I may ask never heard of such a thing
It will generate random strong passwords for you and all the sites that require login. Something like this...

b7zT4*BP&&Shj#pYtzT

You'll never remember that, but a password manager will. When you come to a site requiring login, say on my phone, I will get a prompt from my password manager (Bitwarden), my fingerprint or master password will unlock Bitwarden. Then I click on the stored profile I have for PCF and it auto-fills in my credentials.

Exactly what @buffalojim said, also long post on the subject coming. I’ll tag you

The one downside that I know of to password managers is you have one master password to your password manager account, so that needs to be complex and rememberable, because if you forget that your fucked and will have to start over. Just a tip.
