Hi. I found these chips in my parents closet after they passed. I had no idea there was a forum for this.

Can anyone explain
1) if you recognize these
2) why do people collect them?

Looks like you found some nice (and maybe not some not as nice chips) Alvin. There is a huge differential when it comes to quality and very few (I.e 1 or 2) manufacturers can produce the good stuff. I bet some of the experts on the forum can identify the exact chip with your photos but close ups of the faces would help.

Going to guess the green and black could sell anywhere from $5/chip to $10/chip + great find!

Could you please include a photo with your username and the date on a piece of paper for verification as well? Will help give potential buyers confidence.

The plastic looking "Welcome to Las Vegas" chips likely are worth very little. They appear to be mass produced souvenir type chips. The green and black chips with the "top hat and cane" along the outer edge will be worth considerably more. I suggest you search around this site a little bit more to get an idea of what price you would want. You can also auction them off in the classified section as well.

He’s only asking about the chips. This isn’t a for sale ad in the classified section.

Sorry for your loss. If you sell, hope you get a fair price for them. (Not interested in them myself--or rather, out of my price range. )

2) why do people collect them?
There are people who collect everything - there's actually an internet group of people who collect washing machines.
But most of us here collect these old casino chips because we like to play poker with them. Because they're far better quality than anything you can buy in a store. And there are some people who collect them because they're rare/ pretty / worth money - ie, as people have said, those $25 chips are probably worth at least 5 bucks apiece in today's market (which has inflated CONSIDERABLY in the past couple of years.)
What you have there is interesting because the denominations you have look just right for running a poker tournament for 8-10 people - fun poker night. But what's interesting is that the $25's and $100's are real clay premium chips lusted after by collectors, and the $500s and $1,000s look like plastic garbage. And further, those $25's and $100s were never sold in stores - it's not the kind of thing your dad ran out and bought on a whim because he wanted to host a poker night. It's certainly possible he found them at a garage sale, or even a thrift shop/pawn shop situation. But more likely he had to go out of his way to get those top quality chips.

@Alvin For what it's worth, it looks like it was assembled as a tournament set as opposed to a cash game.

I agree the $500 & $1000s have very little value, the $25 & $100s are more valuable chips and higher quality. Best wishes.
