I sorta agree but if someone was about to list something I really really want, like a rack of LCO $2s, I would prefer they sell at an auction so I didn’t get time zone fucked on a regular listingThe only real reason someone will choose to sell at auction, is an attempt to get more than they think they can get through a direct sale. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with this, go capitalism. However, it is frustrating to listen to people try and portrait their decision as something magnanimous for the people. "I'm not trying to make money I'm just ________________ (fill in the blank)"
One of the most ridiculous justifications I've heard, is "I want more people to have a chance at getting these chips."And if they are willing to pay you more than the current going rate, I guess that is just the burden you have to bear for being so thoughtful.
You know how much you want for the chips, just list them. If you have chips that are in short supply and you want to get top dollar, then put them up for auction. Like I said, I have no problem with that. Just don't pretend like you are doing it for any other reason than to make money.
Not that kind. Drawing a name to determine who has the opportunity to purchase.lottery drawings and raffles are Illegal.....
I guess This would be the most “honest” way if the seller really didn’t care about the money. It gives people a certain # of hours to post dibs and then the seller could deal a hand, flip a coin, do a randomized drawing, or whatever else they want to do to give others a fair shot.Option #3 -- direct sale with lottery drawing.
As long as it’s free to participate in they’re allowed. It’s taking money up front as an entrance fee that is prohibited regardless if the winner gets the item at no additional cost.lottery drawings and raffles are Illegal.....
As a 30 year law enforcement veteran I can assure you that if the end result of a raffle, lottery or game of chance results in the "Winner" gaining something of value ie. exclusive right to purchase, its illegal, period. **Edit** unless of courseyou have a valid raffle or gaming (on premisis or online) licenseAs long as it’s free to participate in they’re allowed. Would running an auction sale mean you need a license to do so? Not being a D, I’m seriously asking. As a 30 year law enforcement veteran I can assure you that if the end result of a raffle, lottery or game of chance results in the "Winner" gaining something of value ie. exclusive right to purchase, its illegal, period. **Edit** unless of courseyou have a valid raffle or gaming (on premisis or online) license
I really didn't intend this to be a legal question, and honestly I don't care what kind of lottery, drawings or games of chance occur here. But if your giving something away with no purchase requirement and no money changing hands its legal. Please tell me how this doesn’t exactly describe “first 9 people in my giveaway play a face up hand, winner gets xyz trinket”.
You’ve got a point. Please tell me how this doesn’t exactly describe “first 9 people in my giveaway play a face up hand, winner gets xyz trinket”.

Technically, yes, its a drawing, considered in the realm of a raffle. As for Augusta National, I don't know if they have a raffle license, ill bet they do.IANAL, nor do I have “30 years of law enforcement experience”, so whatever, but are you seriously suggesting that the “anyone who wants to buy these say “in”, I’ll pick one via rng tomorrow” is a raffle or a lottery? Does Augusta National have a gaming license they use to draw who gets to buy masters tickets every year?
And honestly, on the scale of things here, I don't think you have to worry about the cops "Raiding" PCF!! lol... I was making a joke with the first comment that spawned this topic of legality but when asked for facts I'll give them. Remember laws vary from state to state and now on the internet.IANAL, nor do I have “30 years of law enforcement experience”, so whatever, but are you seriously suggesting that the “anyone who wants to buy these say “in”, I’ll pick one via rng tomorrow” is a raffle or a lottery? Are you looking for somebody to tell you it isn’t cool to flip that rack in an auction, that you just bought from somebody here, last week? Cause I’ll tell you, I don’t think it’s cool. It’s a hobby to me, not a business. I don’t need to make a profit on every chip I touch. If I buy a rack from somebody here, then immediately change direction, I wouldn’t consider doing anything but passing it along to somebody for the price I paid.I wouldn't specifically "Flip" Chipsin peticular, but there are sooooo many here that do and its obvious. But why is it anyone's business if they do flip? or game to criticize if they want to get rid of an abandoned project or find that a chip looked good in a picture but not in their set and in turn make profit??? it all sounds socialistic to me. If your offended or jealous of someone profiting don't do business with them. In case you hadn't heard when you trade your car to a dealer it gets flipped sometimes in hours for hundreds or usually thousands in profit. I recall a post from the big cheese of this forum regarding the price police, it was even boosted multiple times discouraging this practice.
