Levels here in non-metro New York have stayed pretty low... until recently. Cases had been overwhelmingly confined to some (badly-managed) nursing homes. But now we’re starting to get some other hotspots in prisons and schools.

I am concerned that many are going to disregard warnings about Thanksgiving and then holiday gatherings. Things are already turning ugly in the Midwest, and I will not be surprised if by January 1st we’re back in full hibernation mode.

I’m starting to add a few extras each time I go to the grocery store, in terms of essentials (COFFEE), canned goods, frozen veggies, TP, boxed milk, rice/couscous/pasta, etc. Not hoarding as in buying huge quantities, but steadily adding enough to get to the point where, if I want to stay home for 1-3 months, I can.

Meanwhile: The recent emergency vaccine progress by Pfizer and Moderna is somewhat encouraging. But these are still experimental and TBH I would ideally prefer not to be in the very first few rounds of innocculees. My work and finances mean I can isolate at length, so waiting a bit (without endangering others) is a luxury I may take advantage of when the time comes.
 
Numbers are cranking up here in MD. I am thinking about putting it back on hold until next year, but the only guys I play with are in the neighborhood and everyone has been responsible. I don't know what I am going to do. For sure nothing until mid December.
 
Haven't played poker since the 23rd of last month due to the sharp surge in Covid-19 cases. The last game for me was a doozy. We had one of the big players from the ole days back at the table. The host raised the stakes to $/$2, NLHE and NL Omaha-hi.

We had a few crazy size pots for our group. Three of us continued to play for roughly 45 minutes at the end of the evening, $2400 on the table. The two big winners cashed out up $540 and $505. Hero finished up $365.

I don't think I will get a game before next year. I lost my half brother to covid recently ( he was younger than me and in good health) so I am being very cautious.
 
not surprisingly most of the home games are continuing in the Maryland area (and are full). Degens don’t get scared away by a little virus! However, I have decided to stop playing for a while given the up tick in cases. Sucks because the games have been spicy. Damn covid!

I just got back from Miami, and the NOVEMBER heat & humidity was too much for me! I assume it was unusually hot and humid for November.
 
Wife and I are both Covid-19 positive so online poker will continue for me. Wifey got it at work and then gave it me. Mild symptoms so far. Keeping fingers crossed.

My regular group is still playing once, sometimes twice per week, including tonight. I am the fourth in the group of around 20 players to test positive. But no one has been infected at the game.

Geez, hoping you both have light symptoms. :unsure:

We have dodged so many bullets here so far. The dread of getting those phone calls when somebdy that was working with somebody was talking to somebody that just happened to run into somebody that tests positive. Then waiting for the people in the contact tracing chain to get their test results....... ugggh. :nailbite:

I'm not really good with that. 1.) it means there was a complaint, and the "report your neighbor" mentality to me is really scary. 2.) how did they get access? Can police enter your house without a warrant because of the BC Emergencies act? Scary times indeed.

Full disclosure, I understand this is a serious disease, My wife and I both were considered probable cases before they had testing available (she had symptoms (fever, loss of smell/taste), I only had a lingering cough). We both had close contact with someone who tested positive. However, I do take serious issue with snitching on neighbors and what's happening in my original home province of Manitoba. Had one of my closest high school friends start his bankruptcy filings yesterday and at this time last year he was a roaring success due to 20 years of hard work, currently you're not allowed to buy books in Winnipeg, and my mom isn't able to visit my grandma in the last years of her life. They understand the risks, yet they're locked away from each other.

And I'm not trying to start a fight. Seen enough of that. Just my 2c :)

You cannot buy books, or you cannot go the the bookstore? I cannot imagine Winnipeg has put a ban on reading, and the other can easily be resolved via an online presence.

I mean, 23 years ago Amazon was just a bookstore. Kinda turned out ok for them.
 
After months of being a leader (top 3-5) in the continental US, NH is taking a hit. Yesterday was the highest reported cases EVER of COVID-19 in NH. And just as I am finally able to pull a game together for other reasons, I don't see how I can host it now...need to at least be on a downswing, and even then, not sure what turnout would look like. Damn!

You can't buy books, bookstores are closed, but even if you're a grocery store you can't sell books. All non essentials are illegal to buy and sell. Whichever way you look at it, that's pretty damn draconian to me.

Even if you go into a convenience store you can only buy essentials. They've even made it so regular clothing is illegal to buy/sell, only winter clothing and baby clothing is allowed to be sold, however some places have cordoned those areas off because it was too much work to remove items from shelves.

Yes, online is an option.. but that means the death to the corner stores that aren't set up for that. Good for Amazon though, glad the richest company in the world is surviving while my peers are facing bankruptcy.

That's my point though. Why would any business in the internet age not develop an online presence? Books are one of the easiest things to sell over the internet, so that is where Jeff Bezos started. Books.

Yes, I oppose full lockdowns. I also hate that real estate lessors are demanding payments when they know without a doubt that they will force that business to close (which will eventually bite them in the pocketbook too). This is a community problem, and to many in the community choose to ignore it and some even fight against it.

We are all on this tiny blue dot together. In times of need, we should all pull together.

Long term consequences may be similar, but people dying in the short run literally don’t have the breath to disagree.
Pointing at someone and saying “that guy is endangering others” is being a responsible citizen.
