I am in the market for a new 65" TV (and maybe a ~45" to 50" for the office). I have been loyal to Samsung for 20 years. However, I saw the LG OLED (organic) at Costco and my mind was pretty much blown. The picture was superior to ANY of the other TV's (Sony, Samsung, whatever). Anyone have any experience with LG in general or more specifically the OLED TV?

In general I am a fan of LG products and they are generally well reviewed. My fridge and washer and dryer are all LG.

I grabbed an OLED tv finally 18 months ago, which happens to be LG, and I am incredibly happy. It took me so long to upgrade in large part because my previous tv was an LG and was still fantastic after probably a dozen years. The picture is phenomenal and is very customizable for the way you want it. Smart tv functionality is great as well (it doesn’t have HBO Max app because Samsung bought exclusive rights to that app for smart TVs). I also grabbed a Sonos sound bar and it was very easy to connect and works very well.

People really can’t appreciate the quality of an OLED, and specifically how amazing true blacks are on screen, until you have seen it. I hate watching the nonOLED in bedroom now. I would not buy anything other than OLED going forward.

Edit: Just checked and mine is a previous generation and still would recommend that one even: LG OLED55B8PUA

Moved on from Samsung to an LG 65 smart OLED from Costco similar to woody's, and have no regrets. LG UX is superior to Samsung IMO, and the clarity is top notch. Can't speak to the unit's direct audio since we've always had a sound system set up.

Heads up that any on-board smart features will move slower than most new casting hardware, but it's serviceable.
 
I should have mentioned, I also added a sound bar with surround sound speakers. So can't comment on sound
 
I went with a Samsung QLED over the LG OLED solely due to some comments I’ve heard about OLED having burn in possibility. Also due to how new the OLED technology is, we were hesitant how it would hold up over time. I think picture was better on the OLED.
 
Another vote for LG OLED. I’m going on maybe 3.5 years with mine and have loved every aspect of it. Zero issues to date.
 
I love big TVs, but if I can get a 50" moving picture box for $350, that's all I need to see

Caveat - a 50" TV is about all that will fit above my fireplace between the windows and still look decent. If I had a huge wall, I would go as large as possible, or even get a projector if it's in the basement.
 
Get the OLED, 65"+ you will not be sad.
I too was all Samsung LCDs from 2006 (bought the 2nd gen 1080p 46" LCD in 2006 for ~$3700.... :eek: )
The OLED is INSANE, especially when watching HDR content (Netflix is great, but you have to upgrade your sub to the $15/month to get the 4K HDR)

tl&dr BUY OLED, ignore all other TVs.....no question....
 
LG OLED

you will need a sound bar or system

no burn issues unless like us you use it for promotional stuff at the office so it says the same things all day, not static text but same hour log video over and over, have noticed some burn issues, slight but none the less they are there

I am a Samsung man myself

The curved Samsung's are incredible
 
All the above. LG is the only manufacturer of OLED displays. QLEDS are improving, but not nearly to the level of OLED, and they are still backlit, so they will never achieve the rich and total black backgrounds of OLEDs.
 
I have an older (2017) LG OLED TV. It is a great TV, although I do have some burn in from some video games noticeable on very specific colors.

Stupid Rocket League Ball Cam! Pretty distinct here, but I have never noticed it during any other content on the screen. This is a game loading splash screen. So while things can definitely burn in, it is totally unnoticeable in every day use.
 
For me I was a Samsung person as my first flatscreen TV was a 42" Samsung and I paid like $2500 for it. It was when Flatscreens were newer and priced ridiculously high. When that TV went I got another Samsung LCD, but had nothing but issues with that one. When we moved into our house 2 years ago I knew I wanted a newer 65" 4K screen for the basement. It came down to Sony and LG. Ultimately I ended up getting the Sony - 65" Class X900F Series Smart TV. I got in on a sale at Best Buy and have been happy ever since. This is a non OLED model, but it was one of the best rated non OLED/QLED TV's on the market at the time. The OLEDs were more expensive at the time so I went with this. Now Sony is up to the 950H series Which the 900 series are their top of the line non OLED models. OLED's are over $1000 more if you compare Sony, LG OLEDs to their Non OLED Models. If the Sony did not go on sale at that time I was looking I would of went with the LG. The LG OLED model I saw at the time I loved the picture, but with the price back then I would of had to go with the non OLED model. Now with some of the OLED prices having gone down I would go with that 65" LG OLED you posted. Though 77" would be nice. My personal opinion is I would stay away from Samsung due to the issues I had with my last Samsung TV. For a Smaller TV that is non OLED llike a 45" to 50" TV the brand I recommend is a brand called TCL. I have a 50" Roku TCL in our bedroom and I cannot say enough good things about it. TCL over and over gets high praise for the best bang for the buck from CNET and major A/V publications. TCLs are sold everywhere Target, Bestbuy, Amazon, etc...
 
Started with Pioneer (Kuro & Elite)...switched to LG in 2010-ish and don't regret it much
I did always chose the 2 years added waranty (4 total, pick up & replace)

Can't go wrong with a mid-priced Samsung or LG in your prefered size
 
I have the first 4K tv LG made in my basement (65”) (Was in the man cave but now in the poker room). It is still going strong, but the smart tv part is outdated and limited At this point ( firestick cured that, btw). I also have 3 Sony OLEDs which are really awesome (man cave, family room and office). my understanding is that Sony uses the LG OLED technology. Some say the Sony processor is better. IMO, OLED tech is By far the best. Can’t go wrong With either Sony or LG.
 
Wow, this is all a foreign language to me!

edit: This is because I haven't bought a TV in 15 years until the other day, and I went the el-cheapo route (because I was not the one to do it).

@Thomacetti brought up a great point with the Warranty. Since you might buy the TV from Costco their warranty prices are very reasonable and Costco is a great option. A great example is a co-worker of mine just posted the other week he had bought a Flat Panel TV from Costco 3 years ago and it recently just broke down. He went to Costco two weeks ago and they did the depreciation on it and gave him money after the depreciation for what he paid in return and he got a new TV using the money he got back.
 
So bought the Samsung Q85 about 2 months ago. Would have gone lg word but pricing was too steep in the 77 size and would have been smaller than I got. I don’t think you will be unhappy with it at all. My Samsung is great too though no complaints for such a large screen.
 
TVs are like buying hand made carpets. They put them all side by side in the store and you can see the difference between the $500, $5000 & $50,000 carpets easily. But at home you have only one and nothing to compare it to so the $500 will do fine.
 
I agree, although if you want to continue with inexpensive TVs, do yourself a favor and don’t look at an OLED.
