  • Shaped inlay
  • Well executed graphic that plays very well at this scale
  • Colorful but tasteful relevant graphic. Fun and playful while elegant and classic. Oozes leisure yet luxury
  • Interesting usage of fonts, title font which plays right into the primary graphic
  • Bold denom size and color
  • Great usage of space without feeling cluttered
  • Immediately recognizable design
5/5: would own. this is not only a classic, but sets a bar.

Man. Crucify me now.

Shaped inlay +
Fantastic use of space, center focused but not crunched, love the use of illustration against text +

Now here’s where I’m confused. 5/5 if you know what you’re looking at, but we’re not supposed to. If this was produced today, or the chip handed to someone who had no idea what they were looking at, they’d say WTF is Duues? Or Dwes? And yes, sometimes (especially golfers) Dunes. Go ahead and take a second looI, I’ll wait.

I’m good with a four, simply because there’s a lot there without feeling crammed, and I think that by itself is a large feat that plays well to the shaped inlay.

All that being said, I’d be absolutely stunned if this was produced today and people lauded it. For everyone that hates all the hand drawn and cartoonish stuff so far, along with the dislike for being “clever” with designs, I’d imagine we’d see a stream of criticism for this as well.

Dunes is sand and genies and camels. Always was up to this inlay. No wonder they went bust. This is a one. Yeah yeah they had a golf course. But they were the Dunes casino. That's like having a pizza restaurant and calling it "Tex Mex Cafe".

Previous inlays were much better.

This image has problems at scale. It looks like a guy and his pet bear in a canoe chasing a mermaid when viewed at the real size. And forget about reading the casino name. Although I do I agree with you that this theme is more fun and interesting and on point relative to the casino.

7. Can someone make that inlay for me? @BonScot where you at?

I 've just written this on another, truly competent thread, and I 'll repeat it here:
Probably due to graphic design and printing technology lag (for older inlays), or due to ignorance, lack of taste and indifference towards the public, most casino labels are pure excreement.
The best, by far, chip labels I 've ever seen, were made by inspired members on this forum, for their home games.

I get what you are saying. Some amazing stuff out there designed by PCFers for their home games. But I fee commercial artwork is a different beast and I can respect it for what it is and what it represents. You can’t separate the commercialism from the casino inlays. These old inlays are a product of a time and a place and a company (casino) which we idealize. To the contrary, they were not uninspired and did not lack taste. They just represent a different perspective and aesthetic preferences of the time and place.

@Eloe2000 I "respect" what the various casinos have done in the past (I fully acknowledge the situation the chips were made in, which you correctly describe), but still it's no match for what inspired PCFers have done here.

Ironically, if any inspired PCFer went to a casino and proposed a design to them, he (and his predictably superior design) would most probably be turned down, as an expensive weirdo.

Everything inlay went downhill after the first Dunes genie design. That $1 inlay is classic perfection. Everything else that came after sucked, for a variety of different reasons.

I love this inlay. Before I joined here I almost pulled the trigger on the china clay Dunes set. I hate golf too, but the inlay is just so good.
