My wife and I are in the process of building our forever home, and I finally found a guy around the area that can build me a custom table for my poker room. I'm just looking for suggestions on what to tell him I want since he said he can literally do everything (I don't even know what all options there are to consider). I know I definitely want a raised rail and that I do not want a race track. Other than that I'm all ears for suggestions.

Can't go wrong with 3/4" Raised Rail.
I have had a few different sizes and like 1" the best for looks and 3/4" the best for functionality.

1st pic is 1/2"
2nd pic is 3/4"
3rd pic is 1"

I think I like 1” the best too. Now to decide if I want bells and whistles on it like USB ports or not. And led lights

Yes to:
  • Custom felt
  • Integrated betting line
  • 3/4" raised rail
  • Pedestal-style table supports for legroom clearance
  • 5" to 6" wide rail
  • USB charging ports
No to:
  • Wood racetrack
  • LED lighting
  • Rails higher than 3/4" or wider than 6"
  • Folding table legs
  • Fixed-location cupholders (in rail or in surface)

Wow, that's the first time @BGinGA and I have completely agreed on one topic with so many variables. It's like flopping a royal flush. Excuse me while I stand in a daze for about 24 hours.
I dont know...I almost agree...but my results with having cupholders in the rail is awesome. They get used and don't cause any problems. Not sure why I'd ever consider not having them. Both of my tables have them.

Just my .02 and some working experience

Agree with all exactly except for the cup holders and folding legs. Gorilla legs and even plain old folding legs are a godsend if space is limited and/or multipurpose. If you have a designated space for a permanent base, go for it!

Just don't make me place my drink directly in front of me where it interferes with FUCKING EVERYTHING. I'd actually rather not play -- or drink -- than have to dance around it all day. Cup-holders to the side (preferably left) in the rail are fine.

And just for the record (before somebody chimes in about the benefits of centered cup-holders yada yada), I've never seen anybody using a slide-under cup-holder place it directly in front of them. Never.

Now, excuse me while I go yell at some clouds.

Holy shit, that's some hatred of centered cup holders. I used right side chip holders for 7 years and hated them. Dealing was horrible. Reaching in between the chips and my drink was horrible. So.. many... spills.

Now, I suppose, if they were deep recessed, and everyone drank whiskey out of a rocks glass instead of 12" tall beer bottles, it would have been fine.

But when building the new table, I definitely went centered.

Gorilla folding legs are awesome. I will say though as soon as my last kid goes off to college this year and I am able to RE claim the basement full time, I will be getting a new table with permanent legs.

I’m debating between gorilla folding legs and a permanent base. Also I’m trying to come up with a custom felt design I’m thinking a basketball court or something since I coach. And the half court logo be similar to bellagio and say Brandon’s game or Brandon’s room. Any design suggestions are welcome. I’m clueless

Was told he would do
1”inch raised rail
1”inch raised rail
Pedastal wooden legs
Cup holders
Custom felt

for $950.

I want to do some kinda basketball court felt but want to make sure it looks clean and not overly busy. So help is appreciated Anything else I should ask for or request?

Yes to:
  • Custom felt (on a fabric similar to speedcloth)
  • 8 feet in length oval shaped
  • Integrated betting line
  • Raised rail
  • Pedestal-style table supports for legroom clearance (I am doing a boomerang base, but I can see the advantage to this)
  • 5" to 6" wide rail
  • LED Lighting w/ rechargeable battery
  • Decorative Nails
  • Table Dust Cover (for when not in use, if you have cats or something else that sheds)
No to:
  • Wood racetrack
  • USB charging ports
  • Folding table legs
  • Fixed-location cupholders (in rail or in surface)
  • Chip Drawer or Chip Tray
  • Drop Boxes
  • Shuffler (too expensive for me)
  • Dining Table Cover (if you want to use this as another type of table)
  • Rake Slot

Ya...almost done with my table, and I HAD to do cupholders (even though they are not aesthetically pleasing) because they will ABSOLUTELY get used...and no room for carts, etc...

Same for me. I had considered drink carts before going ahead with the design, but my small poker room is very limited. So I opted for the cupholders in the table rail.

Fact is, they get used. It's about function, and I agree they are visually displeasing. To help with this sight, I had Tony powder coat them and they have a finish that matches the color of the suede rail I got. So they kind of blend in. In the world of cupholders, mine are a homerun for my table.

Can't wait to see the finished project Brandon. Plus you are building it yourself so we are in different worlds. I basically had Tony do the whole thing because I possess negative wood talent. I can take a good piece of wood and render it useless just by touching it. That's how much I suck.

Good luck! Post the pr0n once done man!

I didn't know there was a name for my disease: NWT: negative wood talent.

Can use slide in cup holders instead.

What is wrong with a chip drawer or a dining table top?

actually, I was going by the options I chose. If I would need to use it as a dining table, the top would definitely be a way to go.

I thought hard on the chip tray, but I leaned towards no chip drawer. I definitely would not use a chip tray, as there is no dedicated dealer

I've decided for the felt I would like it to resemble a basketball court with the team that I coach logo at half court. Anyone got any ideas that would look good?
