Were CDI's only ever used in films or did actual casinos use them? I'm in the UK and these are my absolute favourites but I just don't know the true origin of them in terms of who Paulson created them for.

I don’t think that CDIs were used in any films.
James Bond references for CDIs are often misconstrued.
The only clear connection that I’ve seen between CDIs and James Bond cinema is the ‘98 version which were illustrated on the cover of a 1998 ‘Collectors Edition’ re-release of a 1954 film.
But there are plenty of CDI fanatics that could give you better information than me, that’s for sure.

Can't believe no one chimed in on this post. Casino De Isthmus was a fictitious casino from the 1998 James Bond Film "License To Kill" bond at the time was played by Timothy Dalton. While the chips are never seen in the movie the infamous red shaped inlay THC $10 chip is in the opening credits. These are highly desirable chips to Bond fans and have sold for over $200 each.

This peach is straight stolen off the interwebs but shows the original chips. Along with the several series that followed. Paulson asked if they could use the Casino in their fantasy line of chips and actually went on to become the number 1 selling fantasy series of all time!

The originals (movie props and a small batch released after the film) again are locked up in Bond Fanatic Collections but several of the later series are found regularly on our forum. The 98s are on the THC mold and still very desirable amongst our members.

Beautiful bright colors especially on the $5 chips which are always in high demand. Also they had multiple runs of these as you can see there are darker and lighter inlays. Also they had some shaped inlays (I do not own the $25) and then some rare off the wall chips like the $100 in the case that has 4 sets of edge spots while all of the rest were produced with only 3.

I do not know the back story on how BCC managed to also produce a set. These have definitely grown in popularity recently... unfortunately I do not own those but my buddy @JeepologyOffroad may be able to show a pic!

The last time Paulson re visited this series was after the controversy of casino chips matching home or publicly available chips. The final series were produced in 2005 on the "PAULSON" home mold... the same as the chips in this thread.

Some consider these to be of less quality to other Paulson chips. They happen to be my absolute favorite chips ever made.

Long winded post as always but yes CDIs were indeed used in a Bond film, and other than the inlays the 05s are exactly the same as the chips in this thread!

Fellow Chipper Ben

Here is my set of Classics. I bought them when they first came out, when they were the only new Paulsons available, and “Pharaohs” Chips were only available as ceramics. I bought them from 5stardeal.com (anyone remember them? :ROFLMAO:) and I remember they were $1.10 per chip, which I thought was crazy expensive at the time.
I have never been crazy about the typeface of the denominations on the chips, and the problem is especially evident in the $1 and $1,000 chip. The red background with the black denom lacks the contrast and is less readable than the others in the set. I also got samples early and was amazed how quickly the white chips got dirty from the other chips. Consequently, I avoided the $1 chip and collected a rack of Bellagio $1’s, which I think work pretty well with the set.

I agree on the red inlays and also would have been awesome if they made that Damn $10 chip a $5k so it was actually useful... never going to understand that choice.

These were the FIRST chips I ever played with in my FIRST poker game ever. I spent half of the game mesmerized by the chips, especially the hundo and the 500. It is a miracle that I won the tournament! Obviously the buzz from winning and falling in love with the chips sparked my poker chip habit...

If you ever want to sell those $500s or $1,000s let me know. I've been searching high and low everywhere and cannot find them anywhere.

I’m amazed... as many chips as they made and as popular as they were...that more of these don’t pop up for sale from time to time

Agree..... so many people say that they are ugly and trash, you would think they would be for sale everywhere.

I see in a recent Pharaohs thread, the absolute hatred for the Paulson Chips mold. At the time they were released, it was the ONLY way to get brand new, crispy authentic Paulsons in quantity at a “reasonable” price. I would prefer the THC mold, but these don’t bother me to that degree.
I’m sure if GPI suddenly made new Paulsons available today but only with that mold, there would still be massive orders for them...by even the naysayers.

You might be right. But it's only because we're miserably addicted.

5/10 game sorta makes sense I guess, what they do at the Bellagio.
That is true but you really don’t need both denoms to cover that.. your $25 chip will take a lot of the work in that set.. There are a few around but not many $5/$10 games in the private market... at least that I know of. Still seems odd to cater to that small percentage of the market when mass production a chip.

Back when T2000, T5 based tourneys were popular... I guess 15 to 20 years ago, it wasn’t uncommon to see people playing T10s and T50s... not saying it was ideal but it definitely happened. This set was produced around that time. Ehh is what it is, just think it would have been more useful as a frac...not hating just a question mark for many of us.

Ben

I just loaded up on $5 and $25 and $100 for 2/5 5/5 and 5/10 home game and a barrel of $500 depending how deep it goes. I still have 2 barrels of $10 I would be interested in trading. I think the $10 are beautiful but not very useful.

I got Gear labels and turned my $10s into fracs.
