I ordered the first bunch of these chips from ASM in 2008. Then placed a few add-on orders with CPC the last couple years. I'm pretty happy with the add-on set, but I feel like the quality (or maybe just quality control) has gone downhill since I ordered back in 2008. Even still, I'm still pretty happy with the set.

40/80 Limit Hold-Em with nothing but $10 chips on the table. When I run out of $10 chips, the $100 chips come into play too.

Curious about what you mean regarding the quality, from the pics they look fine.

I don't really want to derail this thread into a CPC-bashing or a quality debate thread, but I will try to give a very brief reply, and if anybody wishes to discuss further, PM me or we can start a different thread if people feel its important enough. I have pictures of the issues I can contribute to a relevant thread if there is enough interest, but I don't feel the need to take the lead on it or complain any further outside of this post:

1) Inconsistent chip thickness: Why do all my stacks of 20 chips each of the SAME chip denomination have to be different heights? My $10 chip stacks aren't all the same height. Kind of annoying when I have 7 racks of $10 chips that I'm trying to stack in a game. I don't have this problem with any of the ASM chips from the past -- each stack of 20 old ASM chips is EXACTLY the same height.

2) Color contamination: Why do my light blue $10 chips with canary edge spots have random splotches of black, butterscotch, white, chocolate, red, green, etc on various chips? Leftover "clay" in the mold from a previous order? None of my chips from this order had any of these colors in the base or the edge spots, yet they are littered on random chips throughout. None of my ASM chips have splotches of colors on them that aren't a color already on the chip. Not a big deal really, but just an observation about quality control going downhill.

3) I played a weekly game for years with my ASM chips and never had a broken chip. The first night of play with my new $10 chips, two chips were broken from just TOSSING THEM INTO THE POT! Not a huge deal, but are the new chips somehow more brittle? Or didn't get "baked" or "compressed" properly (quality control)? "Clay" mix formula change? Not sure. But never had a broken ASM chip, and first night with CPC chips, 2 chips break.

4) Edge spots: I have a handful of $10 chips where it looks like maybe the chip didn't get "compressed" or "baked" properly, or whatever you want to call it. The edge spot can almost be removed by hand. It's not "one" with the rest of the chip.

5) Inlays: The edges of the inlays on my ASM chips are perfectly smooth/round, but on the CPC chips they are jagged and don't look as nice. Not a big deal, but again, it looks like quality went down a tad.

6) Extra chips: ASM gave me about 50 extra white chips on my order of 1800. CPC gave me SIX extra chips on my order of 2200. I know extra chips are not even a requirement on their part, but I found it ironic that with the lower quality of manufacturing (IMO) they are giving less extras. You'd think it would be the other way around. I never had to use a single extra chip from ASM except to replace one lost chip. I have already used all 6 extra $10 chips from CPC, and I just received the order a few days ago. I hope I don't lose any chips ever... I wish I had ordered 40 extras with my order. Now I know for next time.


Like I said, though. I'm happy overall with the chips and they'll serve my needs just fine. I plan on placing another large order, if that says anything. I don't find this stuff anything huge to write to CPC and complain about, it's just my own observation and opinion of quality going downhill a bit since ASM. And I feel like I have a pretty nice sample size to judge from. If anybody wants to discuss further, feel free to PM me so we don't clutter up this thread talking about CPC quality control.

Damn nice set. Love the new hundos. I remember this set from a very long time ago as it was one of the first custom limit sets out there. I remember pictures from the $4/$8 game you used to run. Quite a bump in stakes from that game! How did you find enough players to run a consistent game that high?

Overall, very sorry to hear that your unhappy with the current order. I've had chips come from ASM (pre vegas and vegas) and CPC all mixed in and never have had any issues with quality or consistency. If I didn't tell you which batch they came from you wouldn't have any idea. With 2200 chips I would think you'd have around 10-20 extras to work with.

Beautiful looking set! I would bring these things to CPC's attention via an email. They can't improve if they don't know there is an issue. Maybe they'll make a few and send them to you when they've got your mold in use to replace the damaged one or at least it maybe helps someone else's future order.

Ridiculously immense set. Same for the stakes. Insane, but impressive to have that kind of disposable income.

On the quality, the quality of my CPC cash set was outstanding. I haven't seen my recent tourney set yet, so can't comment.

I love this set. This was the first custom set that got my juices flowing. I remember the great pictures on CT. IIRC there is a slight honey-comb background to the inlay that was awesome as well (I can't quite make it out in the above pics.).

As far as quality goes, I am a little concerned as I just dumped a ton of money (a "ton" is a relative term esp. in this thread) but order is placed and I'm sure I will be happy with 'em. So I guess I don't want to PM you for more pictures or more details out of fear.

How did you find enough players to run a consistent game that high?

I play a regular 75/150 game at Maryland Live casino twice a week, so I've made a lot of poker friends there who can be talked into a "lower stakes" 40/80 home game at my house every now and then...

That mold would've fit the theme, I suppose, but I'm not much of a fan of that mold in general. I *really* wish the Diamond Square mold was available back in 2008 when I ordered. If only I could do it all over again...

20/40 online would be bigger then 40/80 live. Probably be bigger than 60/120 I would say. Just because of multi tables and faster hands per min plus the increased skill level of online players/information available. Kind of off topic though

This is not true. Hearsay. A game being online doesn't make it bigger than a live game. Sometimes online *can* play slightly bigger (and I mean slightly, like 25% bigger) because people can sometimes be more aggro online, and games are often shorthanded more online than in live, which makes people see more flops. But that is not the rule, and you can't pigeon-hole online as always playing bigger than live games. And there's no way a 20/40 online plays bigger than 60/120 or 40/80 live. Zero chance. I play both, and I play live 60/120 at least 40 hours per week.

Multi-tabling doesn’t make any game bigger. Neither does more hands per hour. Neither does increased skill level. Neither does information available.

“Multi-tabling” only gets you more more hands per hour. “More hands per hour” increases your long-term win-rate (assuming you’re a winning player) or makes you go broke sooner (if you’re a losing player). “Increased skill level” makes a game tougher to beat, as can “information available”.

As a 60/120 LHE pro, I find that what makes a game play bigger is when there are a lot of overly loose rec players in the game, who also happen to be very aggro and like to raise and bluff a lot, and jam with a wide range of cards, and when a lot of them are seeing a lot of flops. And then when they want to do a round of straddles, or put the KILL on.

If I recall, the thickness issues are because the molds are getting worn, and were possibly damaged during the ASM Vegas days. Still the best custom chips in town.

Can't wait to see it when you add on 20 more racks, and $500s!

I placed another add-on order. 2000 green $25 chips (new spot design), 1200 black $100 chips (new spot design), and 100 orange $1000 chips. (actually ordered a dozen or two extra of each denomination too). Placed the order in October 2019. Should be here in the next month or two, I hope.

I changed the edge spots of the $25 and $100 chips. Since I only have one rack of $25 from my ASM order 10 years ago, I wasn't really tied to my old spots, and liked the new colors better. With my $100 chips, I only have 3 racks from my order a couple years ago, and ended up needing way more than that, and the edge spots I have on my current chips are a high level and expensive, so it's just cheaper to buy 1200 chips with a lower edge spot level than another 900 chips with the same edge spot level. Also the colors are too dull on the old edge spots anyways, so it works out with me being able to choose new brighter colors. I will sell off my old three racks of $100 chips and old 1 rack of $25 chips. Oh, and I wish they made the 44mm chips in the horsehead mold

I also did some updates to my poker table. I added USB phone charges under the rail at each seat.

And I've built out a new dedicated poker room in the basement since I last posted on here, I think? (Can't remember exactly when each was, but it's been a while for both. Haha).

Demolition and down to concrete. Installed new ductwork in the room and a new HVAC and air filtration system.

Did recessed LED lighting, recessed 8" definitive technology 3-way speakers in the ceiling that can be controlled via smart phone, and cameras.
