Correct me if I'm wrong but when a casino goes out of business or is rebranded, they get rid of their chips. This should be happening all the time because new casinos are popping up and old ones are disappearing constantly. My question is, who gets first dibs on the chips from defunct casinos? Where are they listed for sale?

If it's in Nevada, the Gaming Commission require the chips to be destroyed. Otherwise it's usually people who've worked in the industry and/or have built relationships with casinos. @TheChipRoom @The Chip Exchange @TheChipVault and others have been able to negotiate buying out poker chips from defunct casinos in the past.

Thanks for the info. Shame about that Nevada Gaming Commission law. So many perfectly good chips destroyed.

That's why there is the story of at least one casino's chips mixed into cement blocks and buried in the desert.

To be fair, that's how the mob got rid of everything.
