Movies you loved and later realized were horrible (3 Viewers)

Nothing But Trouble (1991) - Dont know why I loved it, but I did and you cant take that away from me. Now, it hurts my head to watch it
You really put the pin in the party hog now! Used to love it, still enjoy it :)

Must see Hot Fuzz. It's still funny (well, to me at least) to this day.

so good. a favorite of mine for sure.

i know a guy for whom nothing but trouble is literally in his top 5 of all time. i don't dislike it, but i'm not THAT big a fan.

Not sure of any movies, but I experienced this with the tv show 1st and Ten. I loved that show as a kid, then I tried to rewatch it a few years ago when I saw it was free on demand, and it was completely unwatchable.

forgot about 1st and 10. maybe i'm glad to have. my analog would be Dream On with brian benben and wendy malick. loved it SO much as a kid. haven't seen even a clip of it in years, but there were titties, so 10 year old me (or whatever age) loved it.

OMG I haven't even thought about this one in 20 years - I LOVED this show when I was 12. I certainly haven't seen any since then, but I remember enough to know now that it was awful.

Well, "horrible" might be a bit strong. Let's just say I LOVED it when I was younger too, and last time I watched it...not so much.

Fletch was (is?) a classic. But, I haven't seen it in...decades...and my guess is that it suffers from the unforgivable curse of the 80s: a terrible soundtrack. Lots of synth and plenty of sax.

you MIGHT want to reconsider your disapproval of synth 80s movie themes...

A few years ago I thought let's all watch Rocky with my, then 12/15 year olds! Good God that movie just drug on and on... sad really... MUCH slower then I remember... probably too conditioned to non stop action now...

First "Rocky" is almost all character development. It was probably a bit too much at the time but there is ZERO time for that in Hollywood anymore.

The last starfighter. The very idea that by playing a video game, I could be recruited to go on a space adventure to save the universe was intriguing as a child. I watched parts of it again a couple months ago and had a tough time paying attention.

No wonder it was the last.

Something about the lady love interest... She was still into him despite the "flight suit".

(I know, off topic).....Movies I can't get sick of, but should be:

Suicide Kings
Falling Down (if you liked this, see god bless america)
Mission to Mars (not sure why)
Boiler Room
Wall Street
Basketball Diaries
Close encounters of the third kind
Neverending story
Army of darkness
Total Recall (original)
True Romance (especially the scene with hopper and walken, CLASSIC.)
nearly every tarantino flick
cannibal the musical

Others I would say I have lost interest in:

Heathers
Repo Man (original with Emilio).....still a classic though
Men at work (literally garbage!)
The secret of my success (lol)
Blue Velvet (i know, blasphemy....don't you f*cking look at me!!)
The River's edge
Twins
13 days

More to come I am sure, my brain is farting

Funny that you mention this one. For some reason I remember really liking this when I was young and then when I rewatched maybe 5 years ago or so, it was AWFUL.

Shit you have a couple of my favorites on there. Like all time favorite in the form of Brazil, a film I really love - District 9 - and one I think is a lot of fun - Mars Attacks. I also like Pet Semetary a good bit. I seem to remember rewatching Blair Witch at some point and still liking it.

But I have to say I agree re: the Matrix, though I'd go further and include the original.

Bzzzzt! Wrong. With all due respect to my esteemed Tri-stater, the original Matrix is a great movie, great story and had some incredibly inventive cinematography and special effects. The others were, in fact, absolute rubbish, but the first was astounding.

Yeah, still love the first flick. The second was a confusing mess but had some parts that were watchable. The third one............ick

Ah, I didn't know he intended the first one to be taken more seriously. Yup, seen them all and #2 was pretty much #1 with him being able to do a little more with the budget.

Have you read Campbells books? The first one (If Chins Could Kill) was pretty good, the second one (Make Love The Bruce Campbell Way) came across as too forced as far as trying to be entertaining.
If Chins Could Kill was excellent. That is one I have been meaning to give another read...

Over the top. I remember as a kid I wanted my own big rig after watching that movie so I could do side pull ups on the chrome bumper to strengthen my arm wrestling arm. I finally realized it's so campy and cheesy that the title is not just a clever name.

A Christmas Story. Loved it as a kid. Then tbs began to run it 24 hrs on Xmas eve into Christmas and my god that movie is depressing as shit

Makes me want to wake up on Christmas and be grinch like

Come February you should head down to Fenway and touch your tongue to an inappropriate spot on the bronze statue of Ted Williams... you know, just to see what happens. I Triple-Dog-Dare you!

Rocky Horror Picture Show. Loved it when I saw it in the theater (midnight show, of course) with all the accompanying costumes, props, dancing and audience participation. Couldn't get enough; must have seen it a dozen times. Watched it on cable a few years later - just kept thinking - this is really bad. I love Tim Curry, and there are still moments of the film that might be classic as just a stand alone clip (Meat Loaf's scene for instance), but as a whole - I think it kinda sucks.

i had this movie ruined for me when i was young. the first porn movie i saw was the Rocky Porno Video Show. it was pretty horrible (i looked up a clip online a couple years ago just to see if i was remembering it right) and not in a good way. seeing that before seeing the original didn't really allow me to get a good objective take on the actual movie.

You should try again and give it a nice long hard look.....

I'll see myself out

Back in the '2000s', I replaced my VHS collection with DVDs and the 4 that didn't make the cut:
Deep Star Six
Leviathan
Beverly Hills Cop 3
Navy SEALS

Bad films I still LOVE:
Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man
Rocky Horror Picture Show
The Grand
Tango and Cash
