In the many casinos I've visited, games are Limit, Spread Limit, Pot Limit, or No Limit. I've never seen the term 'Fixed Limit" in a card room.

Where did this useless term come from? When is it going back there?

well.... Vegas. Fixed limit was most cash poker until the (late?) 1970's

Growing up, long before I stepped into a casino, when the "limit" was stated for a game it almost always meant the upper bet amount allowed. So when you sat down and asked what limit was being played, someone said $10 limit, it meant you could bet any amount up to $10 at any time. I suppose "fixed limit" would refer to the standard (Pre-Flop/Turn-River) 2/4, 3/6, etc defined betting amounts that most casinos offer.

I started using the term fixed limit when all the other versions became popular. That said, I do equate limit (without a modifier) with fixed limit.

I didn't come up with the term 'Fixed', but I use it a lot. It's also easier for NL players to understand that they have only one option when it comes to their bet size.... because it's fixed.

Hey Larry - would you prefer Set Limit or Preset Limit? ;)
