Hi All,

A simple question with maybe not a simple answer...

In a home MTT, when a player busts and plans to rebuy during the rebuy period, do they have to rebuy immediately or can they strategically wait until the blinds pass before rebuying?

Haha! Well, fortunately for the rest the rebuy period ends well before anyone is in the money.

Oh, is this a re-entry instead? There are two potential scenarios I'm thinking of:

1) The player busts but wants to keep playing, so they rebuy immediately and continue play without missing anything, staying in the same seat. This is ideal for me as the host.

2) The player busts but wants to think about rebuying first. Several minutes go by, then they decide to rebuy, but the blinds have passed them so they're in a more favorable position. Is this fair? Can they stay in the same seat or must they redraw since they waited to rebuy?

Ah, so the host decides which is allowed, not the player? It feels weird saying that they have to rebuy IMMEDIATELY, but I don't want other players to think they're bending the rules by waiting for the blinds to pass.

You decide what type of tournament it is, in a rebuy tournament you are still playing that same tournament same entry you just added chips. When you are lose your chips you are either in or out.

In re entry you are treated like "new player" it is new entry and what you did before does not matter. So you can take a walk between you get felted and when you buy back in.

I see, thanks for clarifying. So in DNeg's vlogs when he's playing in the WSOP, after he busts he says he's going to "rebuy," but in reality it's a re-entry because he takes a walk and ends up at a new table?

Also, in a home MTT, is there a preference that people typically do?

I think most people do rebuy.
But in a casino setting rebuy tends to drive bigger prize money because it’s geared to fast and loose decisions.
Re-entry seems geared more to the poker playing and not to the prize pool building primarily.

I see. Yeah, logistically a rebuy is easier on the host than a re-entry. I just didn't want to force people to make a decision on the spot, but I could let them know beforehand to start thinking about their decision if it happens.

As a simple fix, you could allow players to rebuy either right away or wait, but that if they don’t do so immediately they can’t resume playing until it’s their big blind...

I only allow rebuys (immediate, same seat) in my league games. Players need to have their rebuy strategy formulated well before the need to make a decision happens. In my games the rebuy stack is 1300 (300 less than starting stack). If i get short stacked early, I will play so that i either chip up quickly or bust so i don't spend too much time with a short stack during the rebuy period. Additionally, my strategy is, I will never get to the end of the rebuy period with less than 1300 chips. Most in my league play this way, which makes the last 5 minutes of the rebuy period a bit chaotic and treacherous - but fun.

We use rebuy. Players are aware of how it works prior to the start of the game (must pay immediately, stay in the same seat, and do not miss a hand), so they know that if they go all in, they already know if they wish to rebuy or not.

Rebuy as soon as you can, since buy-in to BB rate deprecates over time.
