Not the brand name, just the broad candy name

I use both but saying “there’s a lollipop born every minute” doesn’t have the same ring to it, ya know?

Voted lollipop. Both are fine though, with suckers being more of a little kids’ term.

Definitely not worth an argument with the GF though (pick your battles; this should not be one of them).

I actually thought about this a bit. For me, it depends on the company I think. These are extremes, but I think they illustrate kinda what I’m talking about.
If I’m asking a bunch of Hells Angels if they want some, I’d say “candy”. I wouldn’t ask them if they wanted some lollipops or even say the word sucker where they could hear.
If it was women or children or professions I respect, I’d use the “brand name” or lollipop. Sucker seems too much like a slang word, plus it has other meanings.

But most of the time for anything I think I use the brand name and not the slang. There are exceptions, like I don’t ask my wife where the charmin is, I say toilet paper, but if I’m buying some candy I get a Reese’s, not “peanut butter cups” or a “Peanut Patty”, not a “goober wheel”.
So I’d call those particular ones Dum Dums.

Even the manufacturer of Dum•Dums refers to them as 'pops'. Poll is flawed; you're both wrong.

Apologize to each other and go out to dinner.
