A bit of a strange question, but is it possible to play a tournament more or less comfortably with only two denominations and? I have 2 racks of $5 and $25.

I just have 2 good racks of awesome clay that I wouldn't mind taking on a trip. I played with the setup tool and it suggests the following breakdown and structure.
Is it worth it?

Difficult, not impossible. I once played a tournament with a set that had 100s and 500s. We did 10k starting stacks with 100/100 blinds to start and it was okay. With ten players, we had 200 (T500) chips in play at the end. It helps if players can competently bet in stacks or count out chips quickly (e.g., four stacks of four T500 chips each = an 8k bet/raise/call).

Should be fine if you do a shorter start stack and slower level progress. Might even be a better playing tournament than some of the “deep stacks” that start off microstakes and then shoot up the blinds so quickly

I’d do
300 start stack - 15 red 9 green

20-30 minute levels

Yes. And I think its a beautfull idea. But you need players who can handle big stacks of chips.

I would suggest a starting stack of 500 (a barrel of 5s and 16x 25s), 20 minute levels, and a big blind ante.

Danke Peter!

Still looking for a hundred for them! And they will 100% go on holiday to Italy!

I brought them to good condition! A little oil, a little super glue on the cracked parts helped. Also, I sanded the edges of these chips and they became exactly the same diameter. $ 25 - exactly 39 mm and $ 5 - 38.9. Absolutely fantastic feelings from these chips!

But I was shocked when the layer of original clay opened up.
These chips had an absolutely stunning yellow color close to the color of Paulson yellow!
Maybe it's a little closer to Paulson daisy, but still impressive!
And pink is just the bomb!

Each chip was washed and cleaned by hand. (Be careful. These labels fall off easily, all factory owners have different approaches to making inlays)

Look how terrible they were...

It's good that ASM/CPC very often make their chips with a small diameter reserve, which allows them to return sharp edges 2-3 times depending on the degree of wear.
At some point, my wife even asked what else I bought???
They have changed so much :-)

Now let's look at yellow! In this context, @David Spragg words about how difficult it is to get a new color and why it is sometimes incredibly difficult to produce it consistently sound more convincing. It seems that over time, the pigment suppliers changed and DG Yellow changed a little.
But ASM/CPC had it!!!

Here they are a little different because I did not clean the face of the clay and it is saturated with the dust of centuries. :-)

It depends on the number of players. The start wouldn't be a problem, but the endgame could be a hassle if highest denom is only a fraction of the big blind. For that reason, I agree with those saying you should have a short starting stack, no more than 100 BB, and to start with 5/5 to utilize the 5s to a maximum.

How many would be playing?

razy how you brought the chips back to life! You're a true healer for chips and KEMs ;-)

5 people. And we realized that we want 50BB and longer levels. The set is with us. Just in case, I took a few hundred with the Italian flag. But we never played, because Venice, the sea and great food are nearby... A little later!

Not helping the OP, but maybe relevant to the thread:

One evening many years ago I organized a few 6 player tournaments with only 2 denoms. I don't remember exactly, but I believe we started with 30 T100 and 17 T1k for 20k stacks. Blinds started at 100/200 for 100 BBs. It worked surprisingly well!

I'm not saying people should build sets of T100, T1k, 10k. But if they did, I don't think it would be as horrible one might think. The downsides are pretty much that more chips are needed, you get 1 less color, and sloppy stack managers get even more sloppy.

Well, I guess I should report a little. The chips are just fantastic. Everyone really liked them. We played a few games with 5 people. And to be honest, $100 chips were a little short of good stack management. Players had a hard time counting stacks with $25 chips and we were very helped by the 2 barrels of $100 Aztar that we had thoughtfully brought with us.
