Dumb idea or discussed in the past? Was thinking that it might be nice to have the cash denoms represent actual buy-in values and use a cash set (likely extending to NCV chips to get down to a nickel), or be another means to stretch a cash set into a Tourney set.

Have done T.25 in the past and liked it, but if T.05 at 10/10/7/8/2 - you'd be able to buy in for a $100 and have denoms reflect actual cash value.

But yeah, don't see why I'd do it if I've got a dedicated Tournament set on hand.. because the high denoms add in a fun element for folks. But could see rotating sets in, or for traveling and having a dual purpose set ready.

I've done that in the past and a few of my players whine about it and play sloppy saying first few rounds are pointless. They also complain that stacks don't need to equal the buy in as long as stacks are even at start.
I like the idea myself and that my favorite cash sets will get more use that way.
I just need some like minded players.
Thankfully I just started a new job recently and found 3 guys possibly 4 that already want to come next time I host.

Good luck lmk how it goes with your group.

Totally fine to do! I dont like it because the winner ends up with $X in chips but gets $X-(other payouts), and others get $Y in money with $0 in chips. Just doesnt work well for my ape crowd, and we prefer the high denoms. We usually play baby stakes, so its fun betting 30,000.

Consider a cash game freeze out.

I've done a 10x tournament and I liked how it played. $40 buy in for a $400 starting stacks. I was able to use my Jacks cash set with a $1 base chip. I believe we started with blinds at 1/2 for 200bb.

The dirty secret of tournaments is that the first few levels you’re effectively playing at lower stakes than you otherwise normally would, and by the end you’re playing for higher stakes than you ever would. Tying the buyin amount to the chip denoms just makes this more obvious.

Assuming first blind level is 5/10c, $100 will be 1,000 blind which is unnecessary deep.

100-200bb at 1st blind level is more suitable.
Yeah, rethinking from a T25 v 10k sizing.. I think starting at T.25 would make more sense at a $100 buy-in. A nickel denom start might make more sense at $50 or less (probably even stretching at $50).

When we used nickles to start the buy in was only $5 or $10
