Made this Star Wars set.
2025, A crest Mold. CPC.
Was inspired by this early 2000s pack of playing cards for American soldiers.
Maybe the rebel alliance had a similar set of poker chips for identifying high ranking members of the galactic empire/associates to hunt down/reward for bounties - yes, the timelines of the models does not quite match eg Boba Fett and Vader in the same chip set - these were the iconic villains I wanted/love, so be it.
Pretty classic/standard colours - if not in a standard order/denomination. A-crest chosen for price, would possibly go for circle square next time, although I was surprised/happy with the thickness of the a-crest mold which I was worried would be too thin from the samples -the real chips/final product weren't thin but a good thickness.
Sorry the photos are blurred, bad photography.
I tried to make my 5 denomination chip look the worse - so I had natural progression to my favourite - the 200 Vader. Don't do this. Just make all your chips beautiful so they fit into the set is best as possible
. I believe uniformity>uniqueness>progression, i have some regrets, but that's me personally.
I have always loved Paulson chips. I love the black/orange/blue colouration i have seen in some of their chips, also reminds me of the portals from the steam/valve game 'portal' as inspiration for this Vader chip - he also had a whole red vs blue thing going on ; ).
White/Blue/Red is classic colouration for the Union Jack/my 10 chip - no relation to the current racial/flag issues in the UK - I am British, just a nice colour combo, love the scout trouper helmet design. We can get on, we can build together.
Pink/blue chips are something I hope I have created myself, these are my most unique/original design - Darth maul is a classic villain
Red/orange/white chips are akin to the wsop chips from recent years, I have seen Adrian Mateo's playing with similar in the Winimax Europe series - highly recommend if you want to take poker seriously, with the classic storm trooper look - I wish we had a more subtle peach colouration to match the white, the orange is quite strong for me - a more vivid colour than i think it shows in the CPC chip designer, that's my fault.
The navy/imperial blue/white chips are taken straight from Martin Kabrel's blow-up - or not so much him, his opponents, in the wsop $250,000 super high roller (2023).
My regrets:
The copper flaking isn't as bad as it looks in photos, don't worry too much, cameras are designed to pick up any light, its not that obvious IRL, in fact its a non issue, not for just me but anyone.
I wish I had created a greater differentiation between my chips. They May be a little boring/standard. The navy/white/imperial blue chips are pretty similar to the black/arc yellow/imperial chips and I wish I'd gone for one or the other - probably scrap the dark blue/white/imperial blue and add arent more vibrant chip.
Red chips are fine, but I wish I had gone for a 5th colour that fit more easily in with the whole set.
When i see people playing in tournaments, its often 3 or 4 denomination only, with 4 colours that really fit together in a theme.
As such, maybe I would go with base colours such as: White, Light blue, Navy, Pink, that's a great set of colours that really pop together without any clashes, having 200+ chips of any colour leads to really nice, uniform stacks. I regret buying more denominations with less chips per denomination.
I recommend nailing a few, complimentary top tier colour combos, but that's me.
Care and attention: They may/will arrive chalky/dusty, this is how I got them glossy and 'tsk'
Bowl of cold soapy water, tooth brush, cup of cold plain water, flannel dipped in cold water, mineral oil.
Dip toothbrush in cold soapy water, get bubbles on there, scrub around outside of inner chip avoiding the inlay, scrub outer ring, wipe with flannel, dip in plain cold water, lay on towel to dry.
After, grab stack of 10 or 15, splash mineral oil on towel, rub stack edges over oil stained towel.
When stack is wet with oil, rub edges constantly with dry/plain towel until stack has a matt finish. Store.
CPC has been a joy to work with. @David Spragg has been A+ from start to finish, even with a picky/indecisive customer who needed many revisions.
