I’ve collected a mixed set of Paulson RHC. This is my first attempt at a custom relabel.

I have gone back and forth about murdering these vs relabel but I think I’ve settled on a relabel to avoid potentially damaging the chip and also maintaining the existing inlays in case I decide to sell the set and the buyer wants the original chip. I tend to get bored easily and wouldn’t be surprised if I end up selling the set for the next project at a later date.

I have a mixed bag of chips including 200 $1 HSI, 500 $5 HSC(Cinci), 100 Diamond Jack $25’s, 20 DJ $100’s and 20 Jack Cinci $500’s. Again this is my first attempt and I struggled to figure out edge spot progression, colour etc however here I am ready to do labels with @Gear

I have always loved the new Bellagio inlays and am considering doing the entire set using the below as inspiration. Any thoughts on this in the community? I will post some pics of the line up next week as the $25’s, $100’s and $500’s are still enroute to me.

Any feedback is welcome, good or bad…..

I think you mean "over label" if you intend to not murder/remove the original label. "Relabel" implies you are removing the original label. If I'm mistaken, someone will correct me.

Are you going to do an exact replica of the Bellagio label or are you going to do something different but inspired by it? Also, cash or tournament? Might be fun to make these look like some sort of special event Bellagio tournament chips, to account for their non-standard colors/spots and RHC vs house mold.

Sounds like a fund project!

Sorry yes I should have said “over label”. First project like this so I’m flying by the seat of my pants here haha

This is a cash set. We usually play .50/1.00 or 1.00/2.00 depending on the crowd.

I was debating using the exact label vs trying to customize it a little bit.

I have been speaking with @Gear about doing HSC labels for all the non HSC chips which is everything but the 5’s. To be honest I don’t think the HSC labels are very attractive and having a mix of real inlays on the 5’s and labels on all the others doesnt sound appealing.

My biggest concern with the over labels was creating off balance stacks but that doesn’t seem to be an issue. I hope….

The matte look of the stock Bellagio artwork seems like it would pair well with the matte labels used on the non laminated labels.

You will never be able to restore 100% of the chips you overlabel if you later try to remove it. 5-10% of the time you will rip the underlying protective laminate off the original inlay and therefore permanently damage the chip.
Oh man. I appreciate that info but didn’t realize that. This complicates things a bit

OP have you asked Gear if they’re willing to make Bellagio labels? They won’t usually make labels for casinos that are open.

I have not found the labels I’ve made (vinyl sticker material) to be stronger than the plastic laminate that’s compressed into a Paulson poker chip. I’m sure Gear’s labels use a more professional grade sticker material but the ones that I’ve handled are similar to the ones I’ve made myself.

Granted I haven’t left an oveelabel on a chip for years and years, but I’ve murdered Paulsons before and they’re a pain in the ass to break into. I’d be really surprised if a sticker does much damage if at all to the chip.

Didn’t even think about the issue with the casino being open. I’ll have to modify it slightly if that works for @Gear

I was originally doing the HS Cinci label but emailed Gear this morning about the change. I’ll have to work through it when I hear back this week.

Thanks for the heads up

I respect Berny and his labeling experience but IMO this number is WAY too high. It very much depends on the chip, and is often zero.
The chips I experienced this phenomenon on were 36mm Paulsons. The overlabel was unlaminated and probably had at least a couple years to cure. Even when the label came off without a problem, it left a sticky epoxy residue mess on the laminate underneath which took some time to clean off as well.

Residue is definitely a potential issue but can be removed with careful application of Goo Gone (test for color reactions) or probably rubbing alcohol or other solvents. But I would not expect any permanent damage to the chips from over labeling.

The Goo Gone application to 4 racks of chips was decidedly NOT fun.

The line up is coming together. Just waiting on the $500 chips to arrive. I’ve been hesitant to post pictures of the line up since it’s a mixed set and this is my first time trying to think about colours, edge spot progression etc but since this is my first time I’m open to feedback on where I might have gone wrong with this set so far. I’ve provided the chip details to Gear and they are looking to have my labels in hand toward the end of February.

Labels arrived from Gear a couple days early. I can’t say enough amazing things about Andrea and Chris. Just great people with an incredible knowledge of their business.

I’ve been busy over labeling my first set of mixed RHC with the Bellagio”ish” labels. I realize this isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but I’ve always loved the label design of the newer Bellagio chips and decided to build an affordable mixed RHC set.

I’ve tried various application methods for the labels. Exacto blade, tweezers, fingers etc. it feels at times it’s almost impossible to get every label on perfectly. I can certainly see in some of the high res photos I have that some of the labels are not sitting perfectly in the circle. The funny thing is the height of a overlabelled barrel and the stock inlays are still the same heights so I am assuming all is good. Funny enough the $5 chips almost feel like they are stacking better. Wondering maybe if it’s related to the additional weight?

It’s my first label project and it’s certainly not as easy as I thought but I’m happy with the results so far.

Well an expensive lesson was learned. After trying multiple methods to apply the labels I settled on what I thought was the “best” that I can do. Challenges with getting the label perfectly centered.

Well I purchased magnification glasses and wow….HUGE difference. The next 20-30 labels I did were near perfect in terms of alignment with the outer ring.

Unfortunately my OCD won’t allow me to label 500 chips well and 350 not so well meaning I need to order about 700 labels to replace the previous chips. They don’t all need replacement but I think a good number of them do.

Expensive lesson……

Are the labels being damaged when applying them not perfectly before you got magnification glasses? I'd think you could peel off and reapply. Though you mentioned your labels are non-laminated so maybe they'd tear or get misshapen when removing them, compared to a laminated label, which is what I have experience with, which can generally be lifted and repositioned pretty well.

I will also note that Gear labels are the easiest to remove when done shortly after applying. Waiting a day and removing is a differerent experience...a more difficult and painstaking one for sure.

The labels aren’t being damaged but knowing they are not sitting in the recess will drive me nuts. Seeing the edge of the label at time is also not pleasant. I will get some pics.

My frustration is with myself for not starting with the glasses in the first place. It was a game changer for alignment

The labels are fairly easy to remove. I tested one from the day before and it still peeled off without leaving a residue.

I guess I was just curious about why you need to order (many?) replacements.

I’ve been applying them for the last 2 days and the alignment isn’t perfect on about 300ish chips. If I remove the label I can’t reuse it and would need a replacement. This is my first label project and I may not be articulating the issue that well lol

At least with the laminated labels I've made, and even the ones that @Gear made that have come on chips I've bought, I'm able to remove and reuse/restick the labels. So I'd think you can restick the ones you've already applied, especially if it's only been a couple of days. But again, I haven't made/used non-laminated labels, so maybe there's some other issue I'm not aware of that would cause you to not be able to adjust/reapply the ones you've already applied.

You might have saved me if you think the adhesive would be effective if I remove it after 2 days and reposition/reapply

No harm in testing it out. Unless your players like to pick at things, I think reapplying the labels you already applied “imperfectly” this week will still be fine, but the proof is in the pudding. And if you’re not happy with the results, you can always order replacement labels later.

(Sorry @Gear for potentially talking someone out of ordering more labels from you.)

Depending on how far off the labels are, I’ve done micro adjustments when applying labels by lifting up only part of a label instead of taking the whole thing off, and then wiggling/nudgjng the label into final position and then firmly apply pressure to help them stick. Could always lay them spread out and put some big heavy books on top of them after. :ROFLMAO:

Well in total I torched 500 labels. After removing the label they stretch slightly. I didn’t consider them to be reusable

I would assume the laminated labels would be a bit more rigid. Anyways, sent my order to gear and learned a valuable lesson ouch….
