Hello PCF,
Hello from Orlando, where the humidity is eleventybillion percent 5 months out of the year (does a number on my cards if I'm not careful).
So I have stopped in these threads a few times over the many years, and finally got the itch to register. Back (baaaaaack) in the day I was a regular at HomePokerTourney.com, sharing forum space with guys like Detroitdad and Wedge Rock. I host poker a little less than once a month (hence why my chip pr0n photo is on the floor ... my game room and table are a closet the 350 days a year I don't host), so I don't need to fill a cabinet with poker chips, aside from the casino ones I display.
My photo shows 3 sets. Yes, the one in wood case are 500 labeled dice chips. For our smaller events or the 8-person Tournament of Champions, they lend some nostalgia. I think I paid $155 for 500 of them (Stooo-pid!) on eBay in 2003 that came in a wooden carrying case that eventually broke.
But they aren't the OGs. To the left ... yes, those are Dragon chips. Got them in I wanna say 2001, ordered 300 hotstamped from Gambler's General Store over the phone. This was pre-poker game, they were for my old blackjack/craps folding table, my roommate's friends were degens and they loved spewing cash. If I'd only taught them poker ....
In the back are today's gamers, 1,000 labeled Nexgen River Poker Tours I bought in 2006. Bought those after getting a lot of input over at HPT. All 3 sets have stood the test of time.
Is a 4th set coming? I've never really had the itch to buy more (I'm more of a card guy), ask nice and I'll get a pic of them), but I just sold my mom's old house so there's a little bit of hole-burnin' money in the bank. All I know is they're gonna take the cake. Anybody around here know what might fit the bill?
To anyone else here in Orlando and want to play in our poker series (7 tourneys or cash game doubleheaders per year), let me know and I'll get you on the distrib list for the Central Florida Olive Oil Appreciation Society (oh yeah, there's a story).
