Hi all. I was hoping for opinions. I'm thinking of relabeling the Gemaco Trop snappers I got to fit into the Gemaco Eagle Aruba set I recently got. Here's what the snappers look like:

The Eagles follow a color scheme where the denom font color matches the chip color:

I've decided to leave the new chips without denoms, so they can play as 25c or 50c. So my question is whether you think using "NCV" on the chip is better or just leaving it blank with the logo. Here's what I've come up with using my poor skills in Inkscape:

Any input welcome. Thanks.

everyone would understand that NCV is really cash value in the game, but since it's really for a cash game, I would just go with the logo, which looks great

If you wanted to go for the same basic layout as the original with something in the denom space, you could go with something simple that represents Aruba: flag, sea turtle, ship, etc. Similar to to NCV pharaoh sets.

Ah cool, thanks for the pointers. Yeah, I've read that these plastics are 100x easier than the Paulsons, so I'm sure I'm just being overly dramatic for a laugh or two.

Ok got the first one done. As @allforcharity said, easiest thing is to use knife to carefully lift the edge of the label off.

Once the knife is under, put the chip down on a flat surface and rotate the chip while jimmying the blade under the label. Once your made a full rotation, you can pry open the label and pull it off.

Scariest part is finding the seam to get under the label because I don’t want to accidentally damage the border of the recess. I’ve read some ppl suggest starting in the middle because the metal slug acts as a natural guard. May try that.

Any other advice welcome. 1 down 99 to go.

Ok update. First barrel done. Took a bit over an hour. A few tips in case someone in the future does a search for relabeling Gemaco chips:

1) hold the chip in the light and look at the reflection off the label. Sometimes you can see if there is a weakness in the adhesive and it is already slightly lifting off the chip. Start there and usually it’s easy sledding. Maybe 3-4 times that happened for me.

2) I don’t recommend starting in the middle. If for some reason the knife slips, you’re much closer to damaging the chip. Don’t ask how I know.

3) sometimes the best outcome is having the knife cut slightly into the label. If that happens, stop cutting and just twist the knife where it sits. The twisting will lift up the label and give you a chance to release it from the chip. If you need more help, return the blade to where it made the incision and twist again.

4) once you have some separation, no need to do the rotation, jimmying thing. just grab the open edge and carefully pull off the entire label. I think you leave less residue if you get as close to the base of the label as you can (ie, don't yank it off in one pull - yank some, reposition, pull a bit more, repeat)

Probably now time to order the new labels and see how the barrel looks before going too much further. I was going to wait and see if sticker mule does a Black Friday deal, but maybe I just go ahead. Thanks to all for the advice on the NCV question. My wife agrees the logo alone looks best.

Uh oh. I just realized I ordered “labels” from Sticker Mule instead of “stickers.” The stickers are thicker and vinyl while the labels are thinner and BOPP. Hmmm. I guess I’ll have to hope for the best. The blanks have ridges where the slug meets the plastic so I’m a little worried. Fingers crossed.

You can always order labels from @Spinettis Gaming and I'll be more than happy to help you out!

A bit late to the party but another +1 for the no NCV label. The logo by itself looks very tidy!

Good luck with the murder, I don't have enough patience so have paid someone in the past haha

Yeah these plastics were a breeze. By the end I was flying through them, just use the knife to find a loose part of the sticker and then peel it back enough to grab a hold of it. The stickers are high quality, but they probably hadn't been handled in quite a while so naturally they lifted a bit off the chip.

I emailed Sticker Mule about switching to stickers from labels. Unfortunately, the order had already printed, so I'll have to just see how it turns out. She did give me a $10 credit to my account in case I need to reorder, which I thought was nice of them.

Looking forward to seeing the finished product!

Ok update after applying 1 label. It doesn’t look terrible, but unfortunately the size of the label is too small. It was hard to get an accurate measurement, the old label was 31/32 of an inch and I was afraid of going to big so I went 0.96”. I think it’s just too much space on the edges.

Furthermore, the logo could be bigger and the blue gradient could be darker. And I think the sticker will be higher quality as the label feels papery.

So unfortunately I think I’m going to have to reprint. The sizing is what I’m most worried about at this point. 0.97” is what I was thinking but any advice welcome.

You’re on the right track IMO. So hard to do these relabels but that label being short would throw me off as well. Might even go a shade darker on the font too if your going to order new ones. Maybe it’s the camera but it seems light to me.

Late to the thread, but what about using a symbol instead of NCV, like the cents symbol ¢ or a suit (heart, spade, club, etc.) or some other symbol, like from the Wingdings font or other symbol fonts.

Maybe an outline of an Eagle?

Seeing the centered text on the pink chip label next to the text and denom on the Red $5 chip label just looks a little off.

Ok next version. Darker gradient that goes further in the circle. Darker font and bigger logo.

thanks for this. the aruba flag does have a red star on it, but there's already a star in the resort logo, so it seemed a little redundant. i like the eagle idea, but in the end decided the logo by itself looks clean and nice. cheers.

Quick update from me.

After my prior misstep with trying to make my own labels on Sticker Mule, I decided to employ the services of @Gear to have the job done correctly. It's intuitive (but was lost on me) that it's much easier to DIY your labels if you're relabeling an entire set, rather than trying to match an existing set. The colors, shading, etc. can be difficult to match and it's a job best left to the professionals. Thankfully, the team and Gear already had both the EA chips and the outgoing Trop snapper, so they were able to match the colors beautifully.

Plus, I decided to change course and go with the 25c denom after all. I wasn't confident in my ability to recreate the EA numeric font, but Chris did it perfectly.
