Napkin math Tina vs BR PRO (1 Viewer)

FWIW here’s my breakdown of my Tina Greek mold hybrid order last year with direct air shipping to Montreal. It wasn’t complicated at all because Justin just has Tina airship directly to international buyers like me, so there was no reshipping logistics.View attachment 1450664

If you order directly from Tina it’s $0,35/Chip for Hybrid = $253,75 USD for 725 Chips and $138 Shipping to Canada.

(if you have your own design of course)

It sounds like you haven’t found the set you like and probably need to search a little long. I was also considering the Apache chip. The Royals or Majestic were in the running, but the dealbreaker for me with Apache was what they wanted to change for shipping. I was living in Ottawa at the time and had a US Box, and it didn’t matter where I ship the Apache chips. They wanted to charge a good amount of money. I found BR pro was more reasonable in their pricing.
For me shipping to Michigan with Apache is $38. Shipping from a Tina GB is $128. That's making the $38 a whole lot more reasonable LMAO

That's good to know. I figured a group buy would be cheaper but I guess not. If I'm not mistaken she's on Alibaba for direct orders right?

Do not concentrate on the money too much or you might settle for chips you don’t really love and you will start an endless cycle of selling and buying, losing a little cash each transaction. Find the chips you want, then make your budgetary decision. There are so many options available right now. Pinching Pennie’s don’t work if you’re not happy with the chips.

Ya for sure I feel that, made that mistake once and ended up with weird number of metal slugged poker knights LMAO.

I like the feel of BR ceramics but I have yet to see a set I like. Even scrolling through the forum. Maybe I haven't seen the right set. I haven't worked with a designer yet so who knows maybe I'll find something that suits me if I work with someone.

Idk what it is but I just like the look of a mold and label lol.

Definitely won't be making any purchases with the current exchange rates so I have time to think lol.

Yes, and the quality difference between BRPRO and tina no mold is clear. The Tina chips are playable; the BR Pros are nice - probably the best you can buy.
Not $300 better IMO

With that said I do think the BRPro are very nice chips but at the same cost as the Tina hybrids it makes for a tough choice.

The reason why I have Dunes of Arrakis in my breakdown is because it offers a 5¢ chip and it has one of the few $5 red chips that I actually like. I find most $5's too bright but the real photos of the DoA chips chow it as quite muted which I don't mind.

Did you finalize your decision yet? If you are selecting based on availability of a 5c chip, if I'm not mistake, @justincarothers let's you swap labels to different base chips. I.e. within the Tina hybrid line , Justin allows you to put a available existing label from one base chip onto a different base chip.

I'd love to see someone rate the "Tina" hybrid molds. Not by looks (that's subjective) but by feel, especially for the slippery factor.
I don't have samples of all of them but I've read some say the WEB mold was the best of them. It would seem logical that they'd all feel the same as they are made on the same substrate material but yet, some say there are differences. I personally found the greek mold version to be quite slippery.
Anyone with exposure to all the Tina hybrids want to take this on?

I was curious so I did a little math to see what the price difference is between Tina GB and BR PRO.
I'm constantly told that Tina is cheaper and similar in quality. I don't have every figure sorted out yet but at a cursory level that's just not as true and people say it is. Depending on PayPal fees and a shipping quote. There's a chance BR PRO is cheaper. I am in Canada so I must account for the exchange rate as you can see in the example. Though I have a Michigan address I can ship to.
Also factor in that I can just pay for the BR PRO on my US VISA. Whereas I need to make a PayPal account and sort out how I'm going to send money to Justin if I go the Tina route.
I'll also just mention here as well with my Tina math the birdcage would be purchased and shipped within Canada which is why it comes after the bulk of the math.
If you are after fully custom printed ceramics, Tina is half or more of the price of BrPro (especially if you want aligned edges).

custom 800 43mm ceramics Shipping to Europe:
BRPRO = $1010 (800 + 210 shipping + ? import fee)
Tina = $540 (280+ 210 shipping + 50 import fee)
in USD

I haven't experienced the Jester or the Sun Molds

The Greek Mold Set I have are my least favorite when it comes to playing they fall over the most and are the least enjoyable to shuffle. I stated in my original review it might be due to the label being placed wrong but it is most of the chips. They still stack incredibly well while being the slippery of the bunch.

Hat&Cane -
hat&cane hybrid Newcastle tribute set
First off they stack great I could stack 125, should have taken a picture. The 100 stack was surprisingly stable.
Secondly, Great placement for the sticker depth wise.
Third no issues with shuffling and quite enjoyable.

No Mold Hybrid both of my no mold sets work great.
The slippery issues brought up weren't a factor. Chips stack great and shuffling 8 or 10 chips just fine.
Big plus here, Perfect label placement.
And they stack at 100 just a bit of wobble
Two sets and one member likes them above the others. Seems to do the best with wear.
Had multiple stacks of 50 on the table with no wobble or tipping over. Also a bit more label space.

Scrowns/Cap&Dash hybrid
First I had some issue with what I thought were warped chips making them fit really tight in racks. I ended up buying some wider racks to fix the problem.
Secondly these stack the best 150 high.
Third they shuffle great. Don't like the price or the hassle to purchase it in my experience so I only got the one set.

Final thoughts on public molds
Tina Hat&Cane are great and do fantastic job
No Mold Hybrid are wonderful and the colors are uniform on the chip. Most surprised by how much I like this one.
Web Mold are my babies. I love them.
Jester mold getting a set soon.
Sun Mold - I might skip due to what I have heard.

ABOVE ALL ELSE GET SAMPLES!

@SeanGecko : THANK YOU SIR! I actually had you in mind when I asked for a "slickness" comparison but didn't want to put it on you.
Now that you've done it, I think this is educational to all the Tina buyers.

I own these cards molds

Mine are new and unused so they don’t suck yet, but my friends after once a week for 6 months sucked ass! Like $.40 each I believe

I have these also from Tina which I believe was the very first set with the hybrid inlay (no mold)
IMG_1736.webp

Great chips! Almost a rubbery feel to them and the textured inlay is great! But they have only been in play a few times… how do they hold up over time? Not sure, I think we were into these for like $.60 each after shipping and re shipping, I would buy them again!

My sunfly chips are 43mm with a hybrid inlay, I love them But all of the stickers do not lay perfectly flat in the inlay and with a high gloss finish you can tell on the ones that don’t lay flat! As far as durability I think they are the best, you can put these in a hammer drill and break concrete and the chips will be fine! Made for the constant abuse a busy home poker room can throw at them!
IMG_1842.webp

I think they were closer to about $1.10 each when we ran that group buy. I would buy again, love the all 43mm.

BUT my babies of ceramics are the BR PRO non Chipco Super Poker Worlds!

IMG_1738.webp

I added on to this set 3 times! I freaking not only love the design, but BR PRO blanks are soo freaking smooth, they remind me of river stones. I don’t really care what the comparable price is, for me if you want Ceramic, BRPro 39mm house blanks are the best. IMO
