Hello Everyone,

I have recently gotten into poker and after about 3 months of hosting home cash games with the cheap non-denom set from amazon i'm finally looking to buy my first denominated set!
We play micro stakes .10/.20 or .20/.40 with usually 6-8 players.

So I'm looking for a good looking set with some decent colors, I like having a decent amount of denoms so the more the better haha, but at the stakes we play i shouldn't need anything higher than $2 (but its not the end of the world if there is). So if any veteran chippers have any old sets lying around that they barely use anymore I would love to be able to give them playtime every week! Thanks for taking the time!

To sum up what im looking for:
  • Denominated Micro Stakes with multiple denoms
  • Nice bright colors
  • Nice inlay/label
  • Not too expensive trying to shoot for under $400 Shipped

Thanks everyone!

Very playable good looking sets will come in well within your budget.

Re: breakdowns

Q: Are you playing NLHE?
Assuming NLHE it sounds like you need a .10 chip to be a workhorse in your small game and be used preflop and flop in the big game.
Alternative you can get very few nickels and a good amount of quarters and move small game to .10/.25 (nickels mostly used for sb) and big game to .25/.5. I'd be inclined to do this but it's your decision. Q: Are you willing to move small game go $.10/$.25 and big game to .25/.5? If you are a stickler for .1/.2 then I'd do .1/.5/1/5s because the 10x from .1 to 1 is too big so the .5 fills the gap. If you do .1/.25/1 then when someone bets a quarter or .75 someone can't just throw in 3 x .10 or 8 x .10 and pull change. They'll only ever be able to make change with 5x .1 = 2x.25 and game play will be bad. Again I'd get .05/.25/1/5 and move to .10-.25 and .25-.50 but it's your game.

Q: How deep you buy in? How much bank do you need?
Assuming 100bb starting stack at big game that's $40. Assuming 3 full buyins for 8 people a bank of $960. Hard to get that bank without a chip larger than $2.

Answer above and I'll recommend a breakdown.

You can then buy them here: https://www.pokerchipforum.com/thre...tangiers-june-2025.132115/page-3#post-2702083

Yeah I've kind of been on the fence about ordering a new set as my first just because the group buys take a long time and can be expensive imo. Yes im playing NLH.

.10/.25 would be fine but idk about .25/.50.

Buy in ranges from $20-$40

Your list was this:
  • Denominated Micro Stakes with multiple denoms
  • Nice bright colors

GB is an easy way to get everything you're looking for. I personally can't think of another solution that isn't China slugs. The only other way is to keep an eye out for other chippers Tina resales but that could easily take longer.

Look at some sets and I'll make a breakdown.

This is bare minimums and I'm assuming 8 max because you said so. Most would say plan for 10 players.

Your small game is now .10-.25. Next size up should be .25-.25. If you want a little more money in forced bets add .10 big blind ante that's dead in the pot. A call is still .25.

Next assuming bank needed is 3 max buy ins of $40 per player. Again, most would say plan for 10 players and $1,200 which well hit with ease.

75x 5c ($3.75)
125x 25c ($31.25)
125x $1 ($125)
100x $5 ($500)
25x $25 ($625)

Above is 450 chips.

Next step up is:

100x 5c ($5)
125x 25c ($31.25)
150x $1 ($150)
100x $5 ($500)
25x $25 ($625)

Above is 500 chips and most here would tell you get more. You're still way under your budget.

125x 5c ($6.25)
150x 25c ($37.50)
150x $1 ($150)
150x $5 ($750)
25x $25 ($625)

Above is 600 chips.

So what chip did you like?
