I just got back from a weekend in Vegas (actually did rather well), and stopped downtown to get some Plaza chips I needed and try to get some Golden Gate house mold 100's that had still been on the tables.

Walked into Golden Gate and all of their tables are now gone. It is 100% slots and electronic games. They said the tables were removed last week for good and the chips are scheduled to be destroyed and are all locked up with no more going out.

That is a shame with the long history of that casino. They actually originated the "dancing dealers" back in the day.

Anyway, another sad day in casino chip history.

I saw a post on a FB channel last week....they are the oldest (and smallest) casino on Fremont St. and the owner is a bit of a weirdo.
More & more employees are getting fired too... (cleaning, bellhop, valet, even check-in's going all digital in some hotels.

Always small batches of less than 20, to avoid all the regulations on collective lay-offs.

My friend at the cage mentions low traffic and light paychecks...almost no foreigners atm.
Let's hope F1 & winter holidays bring people to Vegas again.

When I popped in, there was almost no one in the casino while the others were lively. Its a shame with the history of the Golden Gate.

I have been working on a house mold set for a few years now and kept holding off on the $100s because they were still in play and figured I could harvest a few here and there when I was up in order to get a barrel.

I was up quite a bit this trip and wanted to try and get as many as I could (I mean, seriously, no one harvests 100s). Chance is now gone... ugh

Sad, I loved playing craps there! They had really good crews on those tables. RIP

You're dead-on with that one.

It's all about the casinos maximizing their existing floor space to make as much money as inhumanly possible, and in their minds, slots outperform poker tables and all the other classic (to them: space-eating, employee-filled) games of chance, so they toss them in the trash along with all the workers.

The problem is, by doing so, you also get rid of any potential class, nostalgia or ambience that the establishment has left, and a casino full of just slots and electronic games would depress the hell out of me.

At that point, why even bother going to Vegas?

Not sure if these are still on the tables....but the Bellagio (baccarat) oversized $100 chip is an great addition to any housemold set.

Awesome chip, but I meant an actual Golden Gate house mold set. I have over a rack of the fracs, 2 racks of ones, working on another rack of 5s, and have a couple barrels of the 25s. Hard chips to come by these days since these are all 70s chips I believe. The 100s were still on the tables after all these years and I always told myself someday... that day has now passed. Opportunity missed.
