Your lowest denomination is ONE-TENTH the value of the next highest denomination. Examples:

Playing 10c-20c games, chipset is 10c-$1-etc
Playing &1-$2 games, chipset is $1-$10-etc
Playing $100-$200 games with no $500 chip, set is $100-$1000-etc

Assume eight players. How many of the lowest denomination are you buying for that set?

I think the only time it gets below 200 for most chippers it’s when it’s hard to get fracs. Could get by with 100 for sure. Also depends if there’s tipping and a rake, but I’m assuming not in this example.

IDK, I lean towards 100 since I still think it's going to see more use as the blind/ante chip than later streets of betting. If I'm keeping a spread that wide between chip values it's almost certainly to drive up the action, not drive it back down with more tiny chips.

Assuming NL/PL games, anyway. If it's limit I'm buying a thousand of them and laughing the whole time.

I ask for a couple reasons, but I have seen some casino 10-20 games and the only denominations in the table were $10, $100, and $1000.
Well then your answer is you should have thousands of your lowest denomination chip  :ROFLMAO:

I thought it out like this. Playing .25/.50, where the frac is 1/4 of the next denom, I want 100 of those. But now the frac is 1/10 of the next denom.
1/10 is less than 1/4 by a factor of 2.5.
2.5 x 100 = 250.

Wow I did a terrible job of explaining that. But 250 is the comfortable minimum, final answer!
(But 300 makes a lot of sense.)

As a math major I appreciate this response!

^ and for similar reasons, I selected '260-340' in the poll.

Personally, I'd buy 300.... and would strongly discourage anyone from buying fewer than 200.

I’m interested in these answers as well. Might I add a question to this thread? What would an ideal starting stack look like?

No such thing as an ideal starting stack for a cash game. Get all the fracs in play asap, along with a reasonable number of workhorse chips and a few higher value chips if necessary.

I have a barrel for each player, so around 2 racks (200) should be good starting if you average 8 players! Note also if your game really plays like a .25/.50, or .50/1, or 1/2 game, the lowest denom may be more or less important. I’ve definitely been to games where .25/.50 blinds has played more like 1/2 with straddles etc.

Of course, I would rather get a few chips with a value in the middle rather than rely on so much of a small denom (because it can ger expensive).

Say 60x 0.50 chips in a 0.10 based game, for example.
