Looking for a little insight from PCF “expert” home game hosts/players…..
Tomorrow nite (Thursday) I’m hosting a 7-player cash game.
Planning on round-by-round rotation of Omaha 8, Crazy Pineapple 8, 7-Card Stud 8, Scrotum 8, SOHE and Holdem (all games are $2-$4 limit with the exception of No Limit Holdem).
Buyin $50 min/$100 max and players can add-on up to no more than $100 in their stack (so if player has $40 they can add-on up to $60 more). I’m trying to keep players from going on tilt and rebuying for $200 or $300 to try to recoup losses in NLHE.
Also doing a half-kill to $3-$6 if anyone scoops a hi/lo pot or wins 2 pots in a row.
I've hosted tourneys with $2-5 spread limit cash games afterward, but this is first time trying this.
Interested in any thoughts, suggestions. Thanks in advance.

These brats are awesome by the way!

Why even have the Hold’em game in the rotation? If everything else is limit it doesn’t feel right to have no limit Hold’em as well. Especially since every other game is also a split pot game, it doesn’t fit at all.

Dropping Hold’em also means you don’t have to have a max buy-in since the game is only limit.

In my home game we allowed rebuy to the 50% of highest stak on the table. Plus playing PLO in limit is crazy.

An easy solution is to put a cap on the big-bet games, which allows for uncapped buy-ins.
@abby99 I considered something like this. What do you suggest for these stakes? Maybe $50 bet limit? (In local Canadian casino there is a $100 bet limit in $1-$2 NLHE).
(In my $2-$5 dealers choice spread limit games after our tournament ends, I have a “NLHE” game but a $15 bet or raise ends all betting for the rest of the hand.)

I do not like cap for no limit. It's no limit after all. But table stakes.

You could do something like 2/4 limit, and NL/PL with .25/.50 blinds and a cap of $100 -- Whatever you and your group are comfortable with.

Putting a cap on big-bet games makes sense when a mixed game includes both fixed-limit and big-bet games. Even The Big Game in Las Vegas has a cap on the big-bet games in their mix.

Here’s an update on how our game worked out (7 players, 5 hours):

BUY-IN: $50 Min/$100 Max

RE-BUYS: Any amount up to $100 Max Stack

BLINDS/BETTING: With the exception of NLHE, all games were $2/$4 Fixed Limit with $1/$2 blinds. For NLHE, player to immediate left of dealer posted a single $1 blind.

HALF-KILL: Betting went to $3/$6 if any player scooped a Hi/Lo pot or won two split pots in a row. (This went smoothly and we had about a dozen kill hands).

GAME ROTATION: Omaha 8, Crazy Pineapple 8, NLHE, SOHE, 7-Card Stud 8, Scrotum 8 (This rotation worked well; probably will drop 7-Card and Scrotum next time as they were the least popular. NL Holdem worked out very well and was quite popular as it was a great break to the limit games; the single $1 blind was good for the stakes and stacks we had).

HIGH HAND JACKPOT: High hand of the night took the jackpot of “odd” chips from chopped pots. (We only had $7 in this pot at end of night, will have players ante $1 or $2 next time to build up the jackpot).

In general, it was a very fun night as the games went smoothly with no drunks or cheapskates who normally slow down my cash games after a tournament.
We had one big winner ($360), two guys (me included) that broke even, and four others who lost between $50 and $150 each.
Looking forward to doing it again. Thanks to those who offered their input to this thread especially @abby99
