Looking for the highest quality, bright colored, 1000pc tourney set, i can get for around $1000. Had no idea when I joined this group that the rabbit hole was this deep. Found a set of Abbiati Crown Plaza's which i love but unfortunately we couldn't agree on a price. Someone recommended Tiger Palace chips to me (before they knew my budget) and wow!!! Those are the coolest chips I've ever seen but damn, $10+k for a set is wild!!! Thanks for any advice and pointers.

Not to discourage, but this is an uphill battle at that price point for what you're looking for. It's a tight market $1 a chip for highest quality, bright colored without a reference. It may be better first start with what you need for your game, 1000 chips is a lot. Are you currently hosting tournaments? Are you looking to start? What does your player base look like?

Yea I'm kind of gathering that. We are playing a bi monthly holdem tournament. Usually 10-15 players. Not a high stakes game. Just would be nice to play with something a little better than plastic dice chips.

How long do you have? Hit up @justincarothers and get in on the next group buy for a set of Tina's. I just bought a set to use specifically for tournaments and they look fantastic. They may not feel like my Paulson sets, but they also didn't cost more than I paid for my first 6 used cars combined. lol You'll come in well under budget if you can wait a bit.

The BRPro ceramics would be faster. I personally like these more than my BRPro set and they cost about half as much. They just take a while.

Thanks for the input. I've shopped on thier site and haven't found any that I'm crazy about.
You can work with their team and provide them your own design or customize something they already have. Tons of possibilities with ceramics. Also, really the only choice for a $1/chip budget.

Those are absolutely awesome colors. I need a set within the next couple of weeks. Might rip the band aid off and buy the Abbiati set for tourneys then jump in on this for my cash set. So should I just direct message him for more info?

There are designers here who can help you come up with something you'll love to have in your home game.

To their credit, I wasn't thrilled with there stuff, but ordered a sample set and didn't hate them as much as I figured I would. I needed a set immediately, so I started the process to see what they could come up with, not expecting much, tbh. They sent me the attached and I said to the Mrs...damn it. I think I just bought another set. And I did. They took my logo and my simple idea and turned it into this.

I'll still rotate the set through on MTT days and the dealer buttons are awesome!

Yep. Send him a DM and I'm sure he will get you in on the next group buy. For all I know they're taking orders right now. If you need any help, I'm happy to help you make some sense of what your options are. The short version is that you can use any mold with any color combination and either use your own custom inlays or use any you like. And the best part, you can mix and match, so I took chips from several different sets and slapped my own inlays on them. I wish I'd taken a bit more time, as my design skills have improved a ton. But, I was in a huge hurry. They still turned out awesome. If you need help, don't be shy! I got some attitude from a few of the vets on here, but the overwhelming majority will bend over backwards to help! I'm happy to pay it forward and possibly save you headaches.

1,000 chips is a lot for 10-15 tournament players.
With a proper breakdown, you can do a 20-person tournament easily with 600 chips. That means you can increase your per-chip budget or pocket the savings.
Ok interesting. So I got offered a split on these abbiati's the other day. Below is the breakdown he offered. Any suggestions on how to make it any more useful for me? Or should I jump on it?

20-player tourney with T25 as smallest chip, you could go a few different ways.

8x T25
8x T100
6x T500
6x T1000

Buy a set with 160/160/120/120/40 T 5000 (rebuys/color ups). Or any of a number of other configurations. There are many, many starting stack/chip set/blind structure threads on here.

I'll be that guy. When working on a design slow down. Get feedback and input from others; you'll then see what needs to be changed. Once chips are made there's no unmaking. Slow down make sure your limited budget is used well rather than wasted. If on a budget you don't need multiple tourney sets, you just need one well constructed good set.

Thanks for the input. So you're saying 1000 chips isn't necessary for a 20 player tournament?

Starting stacks should be 25-35 chips. They can be smaller or bigger than that, but that's a useful range for planning. Multiply that by the number of players in the tournament and then add a few high-denomination chips per player for color ups and rebuys, if applicable. 600-700 will be fine, and it can be done with fewer if necessary.

Typically no rebuys

Okay, so 20-person freeze out. Let's just say T25-base T10k tourney set, (200BB), for argument's sake.

20 starting stacks of 12/12/5/6:
T25 - 240
T100 - 240
T500 - 100
T1000 - 120
extra 30 T1000 for colour up
Subtotal = 730
add 40x T5000 for shits and giggles in case you ever want to do single rebuy per person or increase your freeze-out stack size to 20K (400BB)
add 10x T25, 10x T100, 5x T500, 5x T1000 to cover future losses/damage
Total = 800

For $1000 for 800 chips you have some very good options in the ceramic space (Tina, BR Pro, SunFly). Fully custom, too.

Absolutely. That was meant as a bit of a warning. I didn’t have budget restraints and am possibly the most impatient person I know. I’m working on it. lol

Thanks for the input. So you're saying 1000 chips isn't necessary for a 20 player tournament?
It depends on the tournament, but you seem to be getting advice from others on set composition. Though advice on PCF and at times be confusing/conflicting.

My comment was more focused on chip colour and design rather than number of chips. Take it slow, get it right. Can't undo and and get the money back.

I liked the brighter color denominations for tournaments and classic colors for cash, but I'm usually hosting MTTs with tons of rebuys, so the numbers in my bank reflect a 3 table tournament with a ton of rebuys and add-ons. I'm only posting this as an example of more than one way to skin a cat. If you were hosting smaller tournaments, I absolutely agree you could easily get by with 600 chips. Especially if you don't have a ton of rebuys. I'm old, so I prefer freeze out tourneys, myself. I just try to make the younger generation happy with my structure outlined in the spreadsheet.

I would simply suggest you go with what works for you, your style of tournament and your game. I want the bright colored tourney chips to be radically different from cash sets, because we always end up playing cash games on side tables until the wee hours of the morning after a tournament. If that's not your game, it obviously doesn't matter.

And even though I rushed my order with BRPro, I still like it. I doubt anyone on PCF has one set and that's all. The majority of us can't stop buying chips. While you absolutely don't "need" multiple sets, I'll be shocked if you buy one and call it good. If you do manage to do so, maybe you should offer the rest of us some help!

You can get incredibly bright colored chips around your budget if you go with "Tina" Ceramics. As mentioned before look up @justincarothers group buys. I am very happy with my custom set and i reckon I ended up paying 600-700USD for a 850pcs set. Both tourney and cash.

Might rip the band aid off and buy the Abbiati set for tourneys
IMO this. They are amazing chips and the price per chip is very fair, and the breakdown would work very well for your game. You could trim the set a bit down to maybe 800 chips so it would still work fine for two full tables, and sell the extras for effectively a discount. BTW you can see the chips haven't been used, the dark colors look really dry, once you start handling the chips those colors will become rich and deep. Yes, I own a set of these. :cool
