Posting this thread mainly because I need to post in Classifieds but also to introduce myself per the suggestion.
Long time lurker, first time poster.
I run (for about 6 years) a regular home game that's been going for about 20 years. We started with crappy dice chips and I moved us up a mildly better set ( https://forums.redflagdeals.com/costco-casino-grade-poker-set-20-2162283/ ) from Costco; not great quality but not terrible, but still inexpensive. We've been running those for... a while, maybe 6 years? Oh. That RedFlagDeals post is from 2018, and I bet I bought my sets just before that, 'cause I paid around $60 CAD each and got two sets to have enough small chips.
They've been okay chips, but I've always wanted to get something nicer and higher quality. Custom maybe even, but customisation costs a ton.
I attend a different home game, also running for around 20 years. The entire time I've been going (I missed being a founding member by a couple of years) we've played with Boss Hogg chips. ( https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/anyone-know-who-makes-these.49789/post-933880 ). They've served us well, but we bought plaques at some point to help out with the large value chip distribution. Recently, the chips have started to incur real damage. Chunks taken out, exposing the slug, kinda damage. We're looking around to see if we can buy some more Boss Hoggs to replace the damaged chips and to add to our large value inventory.
Now that I think about it, not only has it been 20 years of every other week games (except during the pandemic), but often we use these chips for cash games as well. They've seen a ton of use, and have held up really well. I don't know what the lifetime of an average inexpensive chip set is, but 20 years is a good run.
Anyway, I'll be posting for a bit until I'm allowed to put up a wanted ad on the classifieds.
