HealthCare / Open Enrollment (1 Viewer)

All of our current plans stayed the same as last year. We did ad a new plan that has a super high deductible (no clue what it is) but has low premiums which keeps us in line with the "affordable" provision of the health care act.

Our organization did something similar. The plans are mostly the same and we have another new one ($1 a paycheck if you are tobacco free) but 4k deductible. Good if you are super healthy; which, sadly, I apparently am not.

Per month (pre-tax) withholding's is slightly over $1k for health coverage (HMO) for my wife and kids. Full PPO and Full HSA PPO are not that much cheaper. :cautious:

It is the first step toward a single-payer system.

It's about time that the US moves away from employer-based medical insurance. The former system was great for people who were employed and whose employers offered decent medical insurance, but way too many people were and still are un- or under-insured.

The ACA is far from being perfect, but I doubt that any of its supporters or critics envisioned it as the ultimate goal of medical insurance reform. As Jack and others ITT have observed, it's a first step.
