Headed to Vegas, please help!!! (2 Viewers)

Ok, so my honeymoon to Thailand got rained out, so we are making a huge pivot and headed to Vegas instead!!

I have only been to Vegas once and it was probably 20 years ago, and I didn’t play cards at all.

1) where should we stay (budget friendly)?

2) where would be a good place to go play in a NLHE tournament, that would be pretty gentle for less experienced players? Fun, friendly experience is what we are looking for.

3) any other advice? (Can’t wait to see what I get here, lol).

Theres no family friendly poker room with all the consolidation, play at aria or bellagio or perhaps venetian/wynn if youre north strip

I would try a stations, or other locals property with a poker room. They will be far more budget friendly. Golden nugget downtown is also fairly reasonable. Congratulations on your wedding and marriage.

The only Poker downtown is at Golden Nugget. Happy to send a discount code for rooms (no resort fee) applicable on a lot of dates.

POKER - On strip, I would say the more recreational players could be found: MGM or Horseshoe (low$ to midrange$$). Rocks at Wynn/Encore or Venetian and more expensive. Fun to be had at Bellagio, Aria and Resorts World. Resorts offers a couple $200 dailies that are the BEST value for the money. Haven't played at Planet Hollywood since they reopened but heard its fun. Off strip: Southpoint or Orleans are your top choice with 3 tournaments each daily. edit: Westgate has super turbos for around $60 and that's the cheapest tournament I know of.

HOTEL - Again, downtown would be more affordable. On strip, I stay on MGM properties. I use the room to sleep, shower and shi . . . shave. If you want a cool room with a view, go to the Cosmopolitan and request a balcony.

If I had a bigger house, I'd say you can come stay with me, but I'd go with what John said. He's been coming for years and knows quite a bit. I believe Santa Fe also has some more friendly local tournaments/games. Maybe @Jackstraw could also let you know some information!

I am going to be in town for 2 games of the WNBA finals. I think the games are Friday and Sunday, 10/3 and 10/5. (Finals schedule still not determined because semis are still ongoing)

I'll be there in 3 weeks for the When We Were Young festival concert and am bunking with a friend at Elara, but if you want value, it's at the north end, Sahara, The Strat, or on Fremont Street. We're going to check out South Point for poker.

Congrats @liftapint. Who wants to go to the latest White Lotus location when you can have fun in the desert? : )

I recommend the South Point for budget accommodations, and lots of poker and poker tourneys. Follow them on Insta. The have a dedicated account for poker. (Also the location has beautiful pool and lazy river, and lots of restaurant options and a bowling alley and movie theater). I also like MGM Grand for poker, and you can't not play at Bellagio for the experience and history of the place, like seeing Bobby's room. Of course Aria and the new Venetian room are places to check out.

If I was going for a nice stay and then some poker, I would choose South Point. If I was looking for mostly poker, I would stay closer to the strip, like Horseshoe or Paris. And if you're looking for a great place to stay, why not the Bellagio! It really is worth the $$$ IMHO.

Others have said about quality of players. I think you find a lot of all kinds at each place. Also, can anyone speak about Orleans? I have heard they have options and softer players.

It was a while ago that I stayed there, but Tuscany Suites (just a bit off strip, close to Caesars/Bellagio/Paris/etc.) was very budget friendly, and had quite large rooms (all suites) for less than a standard room in most on-strip hotels.

+1 for South Point as a good place for frequent, affordable tournaments that are fairly beginner friendly.

A little off the beaten path, but I'd be happy to be the shuttle service and since I know driving in Vegas well.
Great fun and nice kind of "atmosphere dinner".

This. When I was playing cash Atlas helped me sign up for cash lists and shop for games and stakes without leaving my hotel room. There was loads of tourney info on the app too.

He's not lying, one of our regular stops. We frequent the one at Red Rock now (since the old on Sahara has been closed awhile). Get reservations that run through dusk and they have a retractable roof that opens up, Awesome.

I was there last weekend and was annoyed at a $200 Resorts world daily that started 2 hr late while they waited for 5th player to reg…blinds running whole time. Room is nice though. If going to resorts world it’s a good idea to check the clock and confirm they have at least 5 players and are actually playing the tournament. Caesar’s daily was in the worst poker room I’ve ever played in, dirty, stuffy, gross chips, hard to find. Aria, Bellagio, Wynn dailies were great.

And for all poker tourneys you will need a players card, so plan to stop at the rewards desk before you get there

Just get your reservations here way ahead of time. I looked 2 weeks ago for the weekend we're there in a couple weeks and it was already booked through that weekend.
Also based on that listing Oscar posted, any thoughts on The Daily tournament at horseshoe? That's two properties down from where we're staying and the times work out in our schedule.

For budget and decent poker all in one, look to Horseshoe (Bally's). There is a lot is in walking distance and rooms are decent. Trams and monorail are also close if you want to explore north or south strip locations. Bellagio stopped comping me rooms because I burned them on play one too many times. It is nice, but not as nice as it was. Wynn or Fontainebleau if you want nice.
