Hi folks,
I'm new here and generally to the hobbyist poker chip space.
I've been playing train-themed board games for some time and have leaned heavily on a set of Apache poker chips and am now in the market for an upgrade.
Was directed to this site and am looking forward to seeing what's on offer for a set that I find a little more satisfying to play with!

Welcome to PCF also from Maryland (Westminster area) and I think it might be the perfect time for @AfterTheFact to share a couple pics from his custom H mold Railroads set!

Welcome to the community !

Welcome! You'll find some beautiful chips from the community here. Happy hunting!

Welcome to PCF. You will find lots of options here! I recommend checking out the original rack thread, the hall of fame thread and the chip designer tool for ideas and inspiration.

Curious: considering getting a set of the Apaches for 18xx (bit hard to justify in my budget), what makes you want to move off them?

I can actually completely recommend the Apache banks for 18xx play - I have no issues or complaints about them.
I'm looking for a bigger set and I think really it's that they don't bring me pleasure to be handling or playing with.
I was looking at Justin Carother's chips with the panda design and love the look, and the handling of the chips seems great, so rather than beef up my Apache set, I'm thinking I would rather splurge on something that brings me more joy :)

One of the big 18xxers (JC Lawrence) has been recommending the Carother chips left and right for a while. Intriguing for sure.

Be careful. Can splurge on a lot of joyful things around here.

If you're going with Justin (and I can recommend - in addition to a lot of clay, I enjoy my Tina set), be aware that you can use any chip in any set he has free of charge, you can move any one set of labels onto any set of chips, and you can also create completely custom labels for just $80 extra.

As a big board gamer myself, I think it could be cool to create a custom set that matches the game's theme.

I think designing custom labels may be a little beyond my skillset!
I do have the advantage that most of what I play is train themed, but to be honest I have no particular love for trains themselves.
The appeal for me of the KGB panda design is the whimsical image behind it. I can't see me coming up with anything close to that!

I appreciate the Tina pointer. Thank you.

Just seen your intro post elsewhere and I have two questions.
1) Since you're in Pittsburgh, are you aware of the Winsome Choose Some convention? It's been going for three years now and focuses on train games (usually around Memorial Day).
2) If you're looking for a set of chips, although I'll be keeping my Apache chips I do have a set I'd be happy to part with that comes very close to the chip distribution you're looking for. I'd be happy to bring it with me next May. It's yours for free. PM if you like :)

I am aware of Winsome Choose Some. Have not made it yet. And certainly hard to turn down that offer--check PM.
