Does anyone here have direct experience removing the label from GN $2 house mold chips? I'm having GEAR print replacement labels and wonder if I should also contract out the label removal. How challenging is it with these chips? Thanks.

Gesr does it in house and they will probably make the labels to fit better.

I did 120 of these. They’re newer inlays, not terribly difficult to remove, but certainly time-consuming. The labels themselves aren’t hard to get centered correctly, but again, somewhat time consuming. Maybe 2 hours total time invested for everything.

It’s a time vs money question for me. What do you value more?

I'm willing to spend the time. Was unsure of the necessary skill, tools, and technique.

Hoping I don't give it a go with removal, only to find myself in over my head.

Removal is tedious, but as other people say relatively new chips are a lot easier than older ones. You'll probably make a few mistakes, thankfully most of the gouging I did is hidden by the labels. If $ was no concern I'd pay to have them removed, but it aint cheap for something you could do yourself.

Any tips on removal technique?

I gave it a try on a few chips. The labels came off more or less like the video link above. Thanks!

Does anyone have some spare GN 25¢ replacement type Gear labels I could try until I'm able to place my larger order with Gear?

Before you murder the rest of those chips I may be interested in trading for them.

@FrankBlack, any updates on your project? I am in the same boat, I have completely harvested my GN set but now I need to figure out what I want to do with my $2s. Would love to hear what you decided and how it went!

After learning to remove a few labels, I was contacted by another PCF member who offered to trade my rack of GN $2 for some that had already been relabeled as GN 25¢. I took the deal.

I might have a rack of $2s converted to 25¢ available soon, done by the man himself (Gear).

What about overlabels?
Over labeling does work well on GN chips. With non-laminated labels, there is still a recess - no chance of spinners.
