Every card room or casino I’ve ever played in has that rule for high hand jackpots.Ive never played with a HHJ that works this way and cant imagine I ever would. Why does it make any sense to add an incentive for people to slow/underplay a hand?
I don’t care for high hand jackpots in home games for other reasons, but I don’t think they serve to keep people engaged. In fact that can have the opposite effect. I once sat at a home game for the last couple of hours, just nitting it up until the game was over and I could collect my bonus. I didn’t have any cash in my pocket and if I went bust and left, I wouldn’t be able to collect the bonus.
I think using two decks to keep things moving quickly is one of the best things you can do to keep people engaged. But I think it mostly comes down to the people. Some people are gonna leave their phone in their pocket all night and some people are going to staring at their screen all night and I don’t think you can do a lot to change that.
