Some years ago me and my poker buddies went camping in a cabin and obviously had cards and chips with us to play some poker. One of the nights we were playing PLO, which were quite new to all of us at the time, and I get into a big hand with something like 6789. Flop is Q75 which gives me a pair and a straight draw. There's a flushdraw out there as well. Turn is a 2 and the river is another queen. Both flushdraw and straightdraw misses. It goes bet call bet call all the way and on the river my villain bets into me. I don't even remember why, but I tanked for ever and asked "do you have a pair?" before finally herocalling him down, lol. He obviously has queens full. My buddies can't seem to forget about this ridiculous hand, and whenever I'm in a big pot with one of them and they have a big decision they give me a hard time asking me "so... do you have a pair?" :whistling:

First off congratulations on the 5k. I am not even close to that but hopefully one day I will be.

My story is fitting for this forum and for all the poker enthusiasts in community.

A little over two years ago I believe, I found a guy selling some chips...Nevada Jack Ceramics. I have known about these chips since I was in high school playing with my friends at big meet ups. There we would always dream about one day having a nice set of chips and for me I always wanted a set of the Jacks. One thing led to another and time got away from me and poker was left behind to peruse my degree and a career.

Grown up and with my a home of my own I was determined to get a game going again with friends. I had throw. A few games and the group was increasing rapidly. It was great to see this game bring people back together...friends from high school and new friends that share this passion for poker.

I knew I wanted to find a better set to play with other than my shitty dice chips at this point and saw a post near me for...you guessed it a large set of Neveda Jack ceramic poker chips. At this point I had no knowledge of poker chips or this forum or community only that I wanted this set.

Long story short I ended up buying these chips from @Polochris. We immediately hit it off and had a lot in common not just our love for poker. I ended up inviting him to one of my home games and the rest is history. He turned me on to this forum and found a renewed love for this game and a new found love for poker chips and this community.

I should say that since meeting this guy I have spent a lot of $$$$ on chips that I never thought I would spend .

Happy to say that the one off sale turns me on to this forum and a new friend. I hope this passion inspires new friendships to be made like this one for me and @Polochris. We continue to play each month at a hosted game and always are on the hunt for different sets and different chips...the struggle is real but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Special thanks to @Polochris for turning me on to this site and community, without which I would not have the amazing sets I do today.

Thanks for reading. Keep on chipping!

You are welcome man! Glad you spent all your money on poker chips! I know your wife loves me for it Ha!! JK. Great times, and gained a friend for life! Priceless!

I had a huge win with my poker gang on back to back monster, excitingand emotional hands and I only won one of them. We play tournaments about every 1-2 weeks or so and on this particular night, we had about 25 players enter. Our normal is somehwere around 20-30 people with only 1 or 2 newcomers.

Hand 1
We’re down to 6 players and I’m chip leader by a huge amount. I easily have more than double the next highest stack. But that stack has been on a really nice run, and he has everyone else easily covered. I’ve mostly been in protect mode and taking small pots here and there to keep from being 1 dimensional in my play. At this point is when the 2 monster hands happen. I’m in the cutoff and I have A, 9 off with my 9 being a spade. It’s all flat calls on the blind all the way around to me. I normally instantly raise in this situation but for whatever reason, I decide to flat as well. The button raises 3x. He’s also the one who is the next biggest stack behind me. I know his style and immediatley put him on a pocket pair. And then everyone else flats all the way back to me. I’m thinking I should fold with this many callers and especially with 2 of them being short stacked at this point and just under 10 bigs. But for whatever reason, maybe just cuz I have such a huge chip lead, I decide I want to see a flop and flat.

The flop comes out 2 spades and nothing else of consequence, no overcards. I know I’m still behind to the button with his pocket pair so I hope to check to catch an ace. It goes check check all across the table.

The turn is another spade, still no overcards and now I have a spade draw. Check check again except the button bets 3 bigs again. I can tell he’s just trying to feel out the table. Immediatley, the small and big blinds are both not happy. It’s very obvious they’re not liking the situation but don’t want to lose any more chips either. Small blind frustratingly shoves. Big blind hesitates more but shoves as well. By this time the button is being very cocky. It’s obvious at this point he has a pair and feels confident that everyone is on the smae spade draw with only 1 card left and very little outs. Under the gun thinks about it shoves as well, then hijack shoves but has a “f*** it, whatever” attitude while doing it. (Alcohol has most certainly set in with everyone while i’m still nursing a 3rd beer at this point so the tells are blatantly obvious now).

I have no doubt in my mind everyone except the button is on a spade draw now. Most of the rest of the people who were out are still hanging out half watching tv, and half watching the our game. Those who are watching our game are egging me on to call because I can eliminate 4 people right now and go heads up almost 4 to 1 on chips. The button is literally hopping in his seat, proclaiming how he knows his pocket jacks will be such an easy win here while waiting for me to act (oh, alcohol!) I have a 9 of spades and no overcard spades on the board. I’ve already got a 4 bet to me (only under the gun’s shove was not a re-raise). This is such a no-brainer fold to me, it’s obvious that more than half the face card spades are in the 4 all-ins’ hands, yet everyone else’s egging me on has got me stupidly considering a call.

I take my time and finally convince myself to muck and get flooded with groans. The button emphatically calls and everyone shows. Pocket jacks, no spades, for the button, and a single, over-card spade in everyone else’s hand. Ace, king, queen, and jack are all present. Only the Ace is still standing now while the other draws are packing up. Sure enough, no spade comes on the river. The button is now the new chip leader and has me covered by 1 big.

Hand 2
Cards are dealt for the next hand and he is still bragging and hopping in in his seat (it has been a very impressive run capped off by that hand). I’m on the button now, head’s up, and I have pocket 4s. I have a great feeling about this and I’m just watching him not even pay attention while he’s still yapping how great smart he was on that hand. I want to tyr and trap him and so I flat. He raises 2x, and based on his face as he checked his hand and then decided what to do, I’ve got him on a weak supported Ace or King. I call.

The flop is K, 4, 2, rainbow, but I flop my set. The trap is on and I’m doing my best to keep my composure. I’ve got my “concentrating while I analyze the situation” face on and all my movements are slow, but not hesitant so as not to get caught acting. He double barrels with 3x on the big and is now trash talking and trying to intimidate me with his lean in stare, “Whatcha got?!” I don’t look at him still sternly concentrating on the board while praying he has a king. I’m slowly calling but I don’t look happy about it (I still have the same face since the start of the hand really) Turn comes and it’s a 5, but still rainbow. Now he bets the pot and my eyes wince briefly. He notices and is ear to ear with his grinning. The trash talk continues. I take a long time, but this time it’s not on purpose. Do I call and keep the trap or do I raise? I can’t quite tell which is going to trigger his ego or finally raise his red flags (maybe the alcohil is getting to me too?) I eventaully decide to just flat thinking my long pause actually helped me out even more. It sure did and now he’s waiting for the river, his mind already made on his next move.

He’s still trash talking and questioning me if I think my draw is any good. He thinks my flop call was an ego call. The river comes and it’s a 10. He leans in to mockingly inspect it and at this point, it almost feels like the script in the final hand in Rounders. “Awww, what’s that?” he says. “That didn’t help you, did it.” He slumps back very confident he’s got the hand but he wants to make absolutley sure while he continues to grin at me before he shoves. I immediatley stand up and call, but he doesn’t notice the sudden change in my demeanor. He’s grinning at the board as he stands up and flips his king over and condifently watches as I flip while he’s again saying “There’s no way that 10 could have helped you!” After he sees my 4s he crumples into his chair while at the same time moaning, “but that 4 on the flop did.” Everyone is looking at me in total awe as I simply explain, “sometimes it’s not the bets you make, but the folds you make that make a huge difference for you.”

Final hand
He’s still stunned at what just happened and the bad roller coatser he was just on. He’s immediatley all in on with exactly 1 big and me on the button on the next hand. I have A, K off, an immediate call. I flop the ace and he’s drawn dead on the turn. Instead of crying he’s immediatley praising me as the best poker player he’s ever known. I dismiss it as the alcohol but even still now, he continues to call me the best player he knows.

In all fairness, it’s rare for me not make the final five, and I keep winning it all at least 1 out of every 3 times, while it seams I make it to heads up 2 out of every 3, but I can’t call myself the best in our gang since we have an actual dealer amongst us who wins tournaments there about once per month and cashes out almost every time. The only reason I can keep beating him is because he let me in his head a while back when he started to watch me and only me play and I took mental notes on the hands he watched me play. I keep playing a couple “control” hands to keep him thinking the same way and use what he thinks he knows about me against him. Outside of that, he clearly has me by a mile in overall skill.

Nice job on reaching 5K posts. (So I assume that the prize will be a rack of Jack Detroit 5K secondaries, right?)

Story:

I was playing in a new venue, a multitable tourney in an American Legion hall. Every so often, I would hear someone in the room shout out the single word, “Science!”

A while would go by, and then it came again: “Science!

A lull. Then: “Science!”

For the life of me, I could not figure out what this mysterious new poker term could possibly mean.

Finally, a flop came out on my table — K8x rainbow — and the middle-aged guy to my right yelled out, triumphantly: “Science!” Here was my big chance to solve the riddle.

“What the hell is this Science thing all about?” I asked him.

The deal was that a bunch of guys in the hall used to play in a home game with another guy who was by all accounts the worst poker player who ever lived. Truly terrible. He had some ironic nickname, which I forget, but let’s call him The Shark.

The Shark was superstitious, unable to calculate basic odds, loose/passive/station-y most of the time, then running obvious bluffs in all the wrong spots. If there was a mistake you could make at the tables, he would make it. The Shark committed every imaginable poker sin.

So, one of The Shark’s many theories about Hold ’Em included the idea that Kings and 8s appear more often on the board than any other cards. He was sure of it. Kings and 8s.

One night, the guys in the game were razzing The Shark even more than usual about his K8 theory. He finally got fed up with getting mocked and said, “Fine! I’m gonna prove it to you! Come back next week! You’ll see!”

At the next game, The Shark strode in with a big, smug smile on his face, and carrying a yellow legal pad covered with notes. What he had done was to run 100 hands at his kitchen table, and write down all the boards. Then he tallied up how often each rank of card had appeared.

And by god, he determined that Kings and 8s had hit the board more often than other cards.

The Shark slammed the legal pad down on the table, and exclaimed:

“There! I proved it — with SCIENCE!

I guess The Shark no longer plays poker. But the guys from this game still yell out “Science” whenever a King and and 8 hit the board.

Coda: This meme needs to spread. Someday (after, of course, I ascend to the status of Poker God), when I’m playing 100/200 with $500 straddles in Macao, I hope to see K8x hit the flop, and then hear some random player from a land far, far away yell out “Science!” Only then will my poker journey will be complete.

Time to end this little giveaway. I used a random number generator and as long as the number was a story it would be the winner. Post #30 was selected so the winner is @sheikh617

Thanks to everyone that shared!

With 4 people all in on a 4 card flush draw, I can't imagine it's very tough xD

MAYBE if I'm shorted stacked with the Ace, but that's the only occasion I'm in there :p

My best poker story so far is how I walked away with most of everyone’s money in my first cash game. Everyone bought in for $20 at a friends house and got to playing .25/.50 NLHE. All in all there was roughly 15 people playing. I was up and down in the beginning but by the hour or so mark the card turned in my favor. At the end of the game I walked away the big winner of the night with over $250 in hand. Not huge or too exciting by some standards but this was back when I was too young to play at casinos or had much money. This event definitely soured my interest to keep playing!

My friend had a 100.00 buy in tournament at his house and 18 guys showed up. Two 9 player tables and i end up with my buddy on my left. First hand of the night i am big blind and I have QQ. My buddy is under the gun and three bets. Guy to his left calls and the table folds to me. I re raise him and he insta calls me as does the other player. Flop comes down 5 7 Q. My buddy bets half the pot, guy to his left calls, I re raise him. He looks at me and says I am all in, guy on his left folds I call him. He says your AQ is no good i have a set. I said you do...he says sorry, i respond why? I have a set too. He yells NO! Turns over 5 5. Everyone is hooting and yelling at this point....then the turn......5. He goes nuts now the room is hysterical....i am not amused....the river is a Q....He is crushed....i said serves you right for one outing me....He screams out REBUY!

A little different story...

In Vegas I think at Caesar’s. Started playing ultimate Hold Em table game around 8pm with $800. By midnight down to $100. Stayed at the table till 6am and worked it back to $1,500. Left the table with $500 and $1000 chips. Had breakfast with the wife and got back to room around 9:30am to get some sleep. Checked my pocket and the $500 chip was all I had!

Ran back to the table. $1,000 chip was on the floor under the seat I had been sitting at. Had been on the casino floor for almost 4 hours unnoticed. Couldn’t believe it!
