Hi all,

Please forgive me if this is in the wrong place.

I'm looking for suggestions for a for a first cash game set. I know I like edgespots and demons. My game is small. We fluctuate between $0.10/$0.25 and $0.25/$0.50.

Perhaps starting with some samples might be good so I can get the feel. However, I know I don't have the budget for the high-end/collectible side of the hobby.

Tina's seem to be my speed.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks!!!

Grab some samples. I think its good to get a few of the best in their class chips. Try out a weighted ABS, a nexgen plastic, a china clay, a ceramic, and a hybrid. Those are really the 5 main categories before you get into that $1+/chip luxury range that is Paulsons and CPC.

Thanks so much for taking the time. I'll do that!

Anyone know any good Canadian sellers / members in the marketplace this side of the border?

I don't but if you throw up a wanted for samples in Canada I'm sure you'll get some bites.

I know Straight Poker Supplies is a good Canadian vendor to my understanding. I'm not a fan of most their chips but that's more of a personal taste thing.

You can also go to the Broken Arrow vendor section for Tina samples.

IMHO, go Tina to start - it’s even more compelling if you do a custom. 43mm web-mold hybrids are my favorite. I believe that as you go down the rabbit hole - Tina will be in the decision mix at some point - great place to start as a baseline - and then you can explore other options and compare.

HSI secondary. Great value right now and they should always hold their $2-$4 chip value.

Thank you for all the advice

Went with some Tina's from a sale thread for my first 'real' set and couldn't be more pleased. Def grab a sample of them if that's something you'd be considering to see if you vibe with them

I've used straight poker supplies in the past. I feel like I'm looking for something more unique than what they have :)

Thanks for the Broken Arrow tip. I'll check it out

Would you mind sharing pic/details of what you got?

Got a v lightly used 600 chip set from @SnowConeYeti

I really liked the Dunes theme and the colors so it worked out well, and I was a wee too impatient to wait for a groupbuy. We were using mainly dice chips beforehand, along with some Apache Majestics when one of our friends would host. I found these comparable to the Majestics, but liked the overall feel and shuffle on the Tinas more.

Wow! Gorgeous. I'm blown away by how much better the chips I've seen on PCF are compared to anything else I've seen for sale.

Any tips for group buy? I'm all about a deal if I can find one :)

I think the best way to get a good deal on the Broken Arrow group buys is chopping the label fee with people. Chips are a set price for their size, and you can pick whatever design you like from the whole selection, but there usually a flat fee of 80?$ split among everyone in the group buy that chooses a particular design.

For this December group buy however, the flat fee is $40 which will also be divided among the # of people getting that chip design, so could be worth going through the thread and seeing what people are buying to save there. Overall though, with label fee being discounted, you might just be better off getting your favorite design over compromising to save a little bit of $.

Another way to save if you're less picky about the design is hanging out in the Marketplace. Tina sets come up a reasonable amount, and you can often find a gently used one for a nice price. Don't think you can go wrong though on either option, just whatever seems best for your needs.

Thanks again. I'll dig around in the vendor section as well as the for sale. Great tips!
