What’s your favorite max buy-in for a friendly and casual 1/2 NL game? I currently like $500 because it sounds like a nice round number, but the game I usually host has a 300bb max buy-in, so players might think I'm "lowering" the max.

"Friendly and casual" to me means no match stack. Although, I can be convinced to allow match half stack.

EDIT: didn’t realize you can’t have a question mark in the title

Kind of depends on the type of game you want to have. I'm used to 1/2 games with a $300 max buy-in, which I think is a nice middle ground - not so deep that everyone has a lot of money on the table and the pots get splashy and turn into more of a 2/5 or higher vibe, but not so shallow that everyone nits up because a $35 bet is suddenly 20-40% of their stack and they're worried about getting all-in.
