All or nothing, will not be split. Everything is heavy lead, sorted for color and edges. All 5s are the heavier and lighter color cherry red variant. The 25s are much the same, the heavier and lighter color variant. All of the hundos are sorted for SCV. Potential two table T5 option available if the purchaser wants the option of adding on two extremely clean barrels of Primary 500s at an extra cost. If everything is claimed I will throw in a barrel of leaded relabeled sky blue Bounty chips.

Primary - $2.50 x 100
Secondary - $1.00 x 100
Secondary - $5.00 x 240
Secondary - $25.00 x 200
Primary - $100.00 x 100

$3000 shipped in the US of A in a MFRB

Awesome set - !with $1s and snappers! - and for a great price… $4.19/chip average, not counting the custom bounty chips.

Very nice workmanship on the bounty chips, BTW. Can I assume Gear did those for you?

Thanks. I had the chips milled and the labels are from Gear that I applied myself.

Apologies for the extra nerdy question, but do you happen to know how many of the snappers are LCV?

And with Empress there is no such thing as nerdy. There's so many variations within the lineup between each denom that it can be confusing and a lot to keep straight.
Really? :wow::wtf: Gee… Just to pick one denomination, I was only aware of nine different versions of the $5 chips:

Primary $5
  • SCV, Paulson Cherry, light logo
  • SCV, Paulson Cherry, dark logo
  • SCV, Paulson Red, dark logo
  • LCV, Paulson Cherry, light logo
  • LCV, Paulson Cherry, dark logo

Secondary $5
  • SCV, Paulson Cherry
  • SCV, Paulson Red
  • SCV, darker version of Paulson Red *
  • LCV, Paulson Cherry

* I like to call this color “Blood”. It doesn’t match any of my Paulson color samples. It’s noticeably and consistently darker than Paulson Red, and perhaps a bit more saturated. I’ve seen the same color used on some Palm Beach Cruise Line (PBCL) $5 chips, too.

Are you aware of any others?

i need SCV!
I would consider sending SCVs your way in exchange for LCVs, but full disclosure: I think nearly all of my SCVs have darkened inlays.

I’ve tried, but I haven’t yet found a way to restore the darkened inlays on Empress primary snappers and primary $25s. Part of the problem is that I don’t know what caused it. Not to stray too far off topic, but I did have a good degree of success restoring darkened inlays on Sundance $1s, but that’s a different animal.

I will stop now, as I don’t want buffalojim to accuse me of thread defecation! :)

Nope, I'm not aware of any others with the $5 chips. For my primary and secondary 5s I sorted for color. I really didn't pay much attention to the logo and for the most I'd say mine are pretty consistent. I didn't get enough of either primary or secondary 5s to sort for SCV and LCV unfortunately, so mine are a mix of both, which doesn't bother me in this case.

Thanks for the offer on the snappers but I'm good. Mine againe were sorted for color consistency, condition, and non stained labels. This is a problem with some of the chips throughout the Empress lineup though, a few 1s have some slightly darker inlays but nothing terrible and even for someone who's a little OCD about these things, they're perfectly fine.

The darker secondary SCV 5s, which I had a few racks of, were definitely lighter weight, and shorter in barrels if I remember right.

Yes, I realize it’s a problem with some of the $1s, especially the primaries. However, overall I’ve found darkened inlays to be worst and most prevalent on the primary $25s.

From memory, the only other Empress chip I’ve noticed with darkened inlays are the primary SCV Paulson *Red* $5s (I don’t think any of my SCV Paulson Cherry chips have the problem).

Yep, what I would call a darker "red" than the cherry primaries definitely have this issue. No idea why exactly.

The place burned right? I wonder if the sprinkler system turned on and drenched a lot of these chips, and because some were so incredibly filthy and smothered in some of the most rancid hooker juice, I wonder if some of that shit got under some of these inlays and just irreversibly stained them. It's my working theory for now lol.

You could be right, but I don’t think the Empress darkened inlays are stains from an external source. For one thing, unlike ASM/CPC and some others, Paulson chips and their inlays are not water soluble, nor are they hooker juice (filth, finger oils, and food oils) soluble. For another thing, if the darkened inlays were stained externally, then one of more of the dozens of solvents and other substances I’ve tried would have had an effect of some sort.

I also don’t think the Empress darkened inlays are a result of someone soaking them in light mineral oil (at least, not entirely), because inlays that are “darkened” from mineral oil don’t turn brown like the darkened Empress inlays. To be picky, chips soaked too long in light mineral oil aren’t technically darkened, either; they become translucent, allowing the chip color underneath to become partially visible through the inlay.

Back to the topic at hand… (AKA bump)

WHY is this set still for sale, people?!!

I haven’t dug for details, but I understand that there’s a “WaB” meetup happening soon (though I don’t know what “WaB” stands for), and I think I saw something about some new Tiger chips… but still…

These are classic, heavy leaded Paulson chips from an actual casino, with shaped and textured inlays, with a great breakdown - use the snappers as quarters for your small cash games - and for a great price! How often do you see this?!

My personal favorite chips overall are Paulson THC from Nevada casinos, especially from the 1970s and 1980s. That said, these Empress (Joliet) casino chips and the Outpost Cali chips are the only others that, to me, measure up to the Nevada casino Paulson THCs.

This is interesting for sure.

Underappreciated chips IMO. Not the flashiest, but they're classy and heavy as hell if you like leaded chips.

Because I have 15 sorted racks of $5s already and I feel bad about grabbing this just to get up to 6 racks of cherry red 11g.

That photo reminds me of a time when a girlfriend and I were leaving a restaurant, and just outside the door was a monster jacked up pickup truck.

As we walked along side the truck, she stopped, leaned over a bit, and looked at the driveshaft, which was a) angled at about 20º because the truck was jacked so high, and b) about 8 inches in diameter.

Deadpan, she said, “He’s definitely compensating.”
