Funny story on this topic. Delaware used to have a charity poker rooms. Basically low stakes room where a charity would run the cage and in return get to keep part of the rake. There were a bunch of stupid restrictions on buys ins but they were fun and i played many, many nights at one room in Rehoboth called “poker at the beach”
One night, a local guy named Carl came in high and drunk. He was a disaster. Harmless enough, but a disaster. He was infamous in town for getting fired from an Irish bar and then attempting to set it on fire the next night, caught red handed on the cameras. Hence he was on parole. People were teasing him every hand like “please don’t set this place on fire” whenever he lost a pot. Anyway, not surprisingly he busted and was off into the night.
One hour later, another guy comes in and folks were telling him about the local guy. Turns out the new guy was a parole officer and in fact he was Carl’s PO. He laughed at the stories and then says….you know, Carl isn’t supposed to high or drunk. Should I test him tonight. Naturally, the entire table found this hilarious and one phone call later Carl was getting called in for a test. I don’t know how it went but if I had to guess, Carl got himself back in jail.
Poor Carl.
Poker is the only game where a PO and Parollee can legitimately play in the same game the same night. The lines between us are not so great…
