Hello All,

So I pulled the trigger on some custom poker chips. Here are some quick highlights of the:

  • Vendor Name on Alibaba: Shanghai Tongxin Yanxuan Industrial Co. (link)
    • Chips are 43mm chips and 14g
  • Total Price (shipped to the USA): $330
  • The rectangular plaques are from amazon: link
  • Turnaround time: about 3 months (give or take a week or 2)

The Process
So if any of you are interested in the process, feel free to read the steps I took below. Otherwise, feel free to comment on the design:

  1. So the first step was to devise my chip theme. I opted for a Detroit sports theme (for the most part)
  2. Once I did that, I tinkered around on chatGPT generating images while making minor tweaks
  3. I took those images over to fiverr and found a graphic designer to vectorize the images (Vectorized formatting is required for the chip vendors to print). The cost for the vectorization was about $10 per photo (I could have found cheaper but there are a million people to choose from. I just went with someone with lots of reviews)
  4. Once I got my concept designs, I sent the vectorized files to Hua Yu from Shanhai Tongxin
  5. Once they received the files, their graphic design team generated some initial prints for me to approve
  6. Once the prints were approved, they printed 1 of each chip denomination and send over a video for another approval before kicking off the printing of the other chips (I paid an initial deposit to begin the work and then another payment once the chips were ready to ship)
  7. After this step, the other 1000 chips were printed
  8. Once printed, they send you a shipping label to confirm and then they are shipped

The Verdict
  • I had done some research for custom chips produced in the US, but their cost of about $1 per chip seemed a little steep if you asked me. I decided to take a gamble (pun intended) on sourcing them from China.
  • In short, I am happy with the chips and the weight on them. The poker crew guys like that they are slightly larger than the typical 39mm chips that we have
  • The quality seems decent (I will have to do a check-in later on how they hold up over time)
  • One thing I wouldn't do if I had a do over is not printing anything on the sides of the chips (I don't think that there are quality controls in place that would make it so that the printing on the sides are printed in the exact same location on every chip.)
  • Would I do it again? yes. I think that these are nice chips
  • I also got this Slowplay case for 43mm chips: link (So far so good on the case)
