Hello Everyone,

Hope you're all staying safe. I was hoping some of you could offer your advice as I am looking to purchase my first set of ceramic chips (both a tournament and cash set) and I would like to ensure my counts are correct before I go ahead with the purchase.

Tournament:

I am unfamiliar with hosting a proper tournament, I've never done it. I've only ever hosted cash games for my pals, and even then my experience is limited. I will have at most 20 players. I could use guidance on what a good starting stack would be, chip counts, and a blind schedule.

Cash Game:

Cash game would be no more then 10 people at any given time. Our buy-in range would be 50-100 dollars. Again, I'd appreciate some direction on chip counts and blinds.

The tournament set I am considering is - https://brpropoker.com/collections/...f-the-river-sample-set?variant=32311971807321

The cash set I am considering is - https://brpropoker.com/collections/...lden-dragon-sample-set?variant=32103992754265

I look forward to hearing back from everyone!

I was interested in buying some of those chips too for a first tourney set. If you end up getting them I’d love to hear your thoughts. I’m still workin with an old Monte Carlo set.

A pretty typical setup for tournament is to do starting stacks of T10000 using chips of T25/100/500/1000/5000 denominations. (This is the "classic" WSOP format before they expanding their starting stack to T30000.)

You could plan 20 stacks of 8/8/4/7 to get T10000 stacks. Plus I like to add one extra T1000 chip for color ups, and then use T5000 chips for re-entries and occasional deeper stack tournaments.

So again, planning 20 stacks, you would buy 160/160/80/160/40 of T25/100/500/1000/5000 makes a round 600 chips set.

You can go for more using a 12/12/5/6 starting stack for example, and again there are several threads on PCF all ready with this, but I wanted to put one example here that's indicative of how you approach this question with whatever your preferences may be.

For these stacks you probably want to get chips of 0.25/1/5 denominations, and maybe some 20 or 25, and maybe a few 100 value chips as well. Probably looking at blinds of 0.25-0.25, 0.25-0.50, or 0.50-1 for this level of play. You can reasonably cover all of the above with a set of 100/300/160/40 of 0.25/1/5/20 or 25 chips, again 600.

Just my high level ideas, there is more to find in other threads as well.

Same advise I was going to give.

Here's a little something that I've been working on. It's a quick little guide/tool for newbies concerning cash and tourney set setups. This is just a first draft so if anyone has any suggestions or wants to debate the recommendations, have at it.

That is a nice little tool you have setup. Wish I had seen it before the tournament I ran this weekend. We had 1 table using my T5 set and I was trying to figure out the best starting stack.

Ended up doing a T5000 stack.
10 - 5
10 - 25
7 - 100
6 - 500
1 - 1000

Went with this just to add a little more size to the stack. Because everyone likes to have BIG stacks...LOL

i find T25 12/12/7/5 works great and provides a descent play time unless one or two degens always go all in

what helps me when doing a tournament is starting stack tubes, you can set it up the night before easy to hand out chips and set seating arrangements

here is more info

now i use the Uline versions (40 chips 39mm) but people are finding medical pill bottles cheaper on amazon and they fit 43mm chips.

Wow, 500BB really deep stacks!

I'm no hypocrite, since my Casino Royale movie tribute set will be constructed as 1000BB....

Yeah, it is pretty deep, but it is a group of the dad's from my son's school and our first time playing together. So I wanted to make it fun and $5000 sounds more fun then $2000...LOL.

All in all we had a fun night. Have to work on my Tournament Director layouts, some of the screens were cutoff at the top and bottom. But I had just upgraded to the latest version and was using the host's TV, so I didn't have time to fully test and adjust them. And I kind of forgot how to use it all. BTW...if anyone has layouts/themes/etc for TD would love to share. (maybe there is already a thread here, I will have to check).
