BTW those marks will come off with a Magic Eraser or if you scrape them carefully with the back edge of a utility knife / X-Acto blade.

Decided to keep them in the end. Thanks @moose for the tip. After 3 hours of work it got rid of 90% of the marks. it hurts to type now.
