Looking for some feedback on how BCC Fan of Cards compares to the Paulson version. Weight, feel, sound? Also, how do they work together? Thanks

Subscribing. I have a BCC FOC set on the way. All I can comment about is that I've had many different BCC and Paulson sets. The flame mold is very similar to RHC, but I've never played with the giant inlay. Only normal flame mold, the CDI. To me, the feel very similar to a Paulson chip, just different. Plus many just aren't a fan of the flame mold, mostly for looks. The older flame mold are likely lighter as well. They didn't start doing heavier weight until late when people were asking for it.

BCC and flame mold are also known for QC issues like misshapen inlays. Don't know if this was a problem with the giant inlay chips.

@Ben8257 can give a better comparision becuse he's played with both.

In my 1000 BCC FOC micro set I have 100 paulson nickels & 60 of my (210) dimes are Paulson; I notice no difference between the two brands with regard to sound or feel. Previously I had a mix of quarters in the set and noticed no difference, with regard to sound and feel, between them either.

I haven't seen any QC issues regarding the inlays & the differing order of the cards between the two brands probably wouldn't be noticed by a non-chipper.

The only mix I have left is the dimes; a barrel of each weighs in at 180g

A barrel of the Paulson nickels weighs in at 174g

A barrel of the BCC quarters weighs in at 162g

A barrel of the BCC 50¢ chips weighs in at 166g

A barrel of the BCC dollars weighs in at 170g

A barrel of the BCC $5 chips weighs in at 164g, and

A barrel of the BCC $25 chips weighs in at 173g

There is an obvious difference in the shade of color between each brand's matching denoms. I don't mind the difference too much between my dimes, nor did I mind the difference in the quarters before moving the Paulsons out of the set (I just had too many quarters so the Paulsons had to go). I know of another member who has a mix of nickels and he does not care for the color difference between them.

I don't think the differences between the brands prohibit them from working well together but, as the saying goes, YMMV.

I like that my set is not sitting on a shelf waiting to be 'purified' into a s single-brand set (I have enough of those!), it's a playable work in progress.

It's also nice that the FOC chips of either brand are available and relatively inexpensive (away from eBay).

I personally don't think either brand is better than the other (in this chip line) but mixing the two, especially within the same denoms, may lead to some level of dissatisfaction for some.

Somewhat related but our local card room, Lucky Chances, plays large inlay BCC and Paulson RHC $5s together (same exact inlay design too). I couldn’t tell any difference and almost didn’t notice the mix until I looked closely. They were equally worn tires if it makes a difference. It convinced me that large inlay BCC and Paulson are very similar in all aspects, look, feel/weight, sound.

The cat's meow are the rare BCC spotted FOC chips. The Endy's only made a few racks, but they are really spectacular.

Here’s reference from CG.

That's cool that they're using both molds. Though not quite the same comparison as BCC v. Paulson since the chips above are probably the exact same clay mixture, just pressed with a different mold. So not really BCC. Good to see they're still using the sun mold.
Had no idea Paulson made chips on the sun mold. Learn something new every day!

Depends more on how old those chips are. Paulson (or GPI or whatever the company is called now) has the sun mold and BCC closed over 10 years ago (2011?). I believe they were allowing custom orders on the sun mold, though much lighter weight and only one spot combo available. That was a while back, don't know if they're still doing that.

Paulson did not produce Sun mold chips in 2010; BCC was still in business and using the mold for (mostly) casino business.

GPI now offers the sun mold (renamed as Blue Chip flower mold) as a no-value chip or low-cost cash check (with limited security and spot/color combos and hot-stamp options).
