Hi guys. I'm from Sydney and am looking for a cheap tournament set. I have a pretty tight budget and am looking to buy chips to host for 20-30 people. What would you guys recommend? Obviously I'm not looking for outstanding quality but I'd like a decent set. Also I'm open to overseas buys but shipping is often crazy expensive.

On another note, I also need cheap chairs fr my tables. I found these cheap $9 chairs at bunnings but I was just wondering if anyone had any recommendations for anything cheaper or better. I know the tight budget makes things difficult but I'd really appreciate the help. Loving this forum and the people on it so far.

Would you guys recommend a 1000 chip set from jacks poker? Is it good value?

Give us a link for that.

Honestly a decent set on a pretty tight budget in Australia is all a tough sell. A chair with a little padding for $9, I doubt you'll get cheaper thant that. What's "pretty tight", what are you hoping to spend? Not to upsell you, but for some a pretty tight budget might mean $100, others $800.

Here's one of the sets. https://www.jackspoker.com.au/the-diamond-x-viper-case-1000-chip-set
I'm splitting it with a mate so I'd probably want to spend 500 all together (250 each) on chips max. I'm just thinking if I can get any cheaper than the $500 1000 chip set from Jacks. Talking Aud not Usd btw.

You won’t get much cheaper than those chairs from Bunnings. Not sure how comfortable they are though. I bought these ones below from Amazon but they cost me five times as much and I can tell you that they hurt even with an extra cushion.

Do you like the AUS DOLLAR chips? They’d work with the 10/50/2/10/50 setup.

Search your local Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist (or whatever you have in Oz) for "banquet chairs", "stackable chairs", etc. There are some deals to be had. I found 25 of these really nice chairs nearby for $6 each.

Honestly nah not really. I want to make my own custom set for cash games but I cbf for a tournament set and it'll be pricey. I was thinking of getting the millions set or maybe the diamond set. Do you run tournaments because I'm also unsure how many of each denomination I should buy.

these are the millions I think they're super clean and affordable

Hi mate and welcome, i've just scored that Aussie denomination set to replace a set i traded out a year ago and had to order the plaques through Jacks as well.
I orded 600 chips, that will cover 10 players no worries, not sure what you'll need for 30.
Chips are ok, (i use this set as the DGAF set) case came with the deal (got 2 now) nice, but only 500ct.
Was looking for a while on classie's here, but the way prices have gone loopy on decent chips, coupled with our $ exchange Jacks being here in AU was the go for me.

Breaking it in with my drunken horde over Xmas. Good luck

Yeah, fair enough, I hear ya. I’m the same; want a custom cash set. I don’t run tournaments but I’m sure there are chip breakdowns on here to help you out with quantities and denoms.

Haven't got anything yet. Took a little break from poker but I'll be back in it eventually. My love for the game is still strong.
Can recommend the Aussie Millions as a tournament set over the Diamonds if you can't save for something like the JPTs. I think the more modern tornado design of the Millions looks better on (relatively, by PCF standards) cheap chip material than the Diamond's design. "Tournament" also being on the chip helps add to the authenticity factor.

I second this recommendation—I bought a shuffle stack of the Diamonds from Jacks, not only are they really heavy (metal slugged 14g), but the colour of the black chips we’re wearing off onto the other colours. In other words the softer plastic was rubbing off onto each other when shuffling and noticeably blackening the chips. I use the Port Royals for the single table tournaments I run, not ideal as the design lends itself more as a cash set, but I got a great deal and they look the best of the Jacks range in my opinion.

Those Bunnings chairs... don't do it!
Or rather, don't do it unless there's no other budget option.

I used them for a while when I had no money. They are uncomfortable and the extremly thin material rips very easily.

Yeah Port Royals are an ideal mid-range cash chip - I use them for cash, and a very large set for a play-money craps bank (in my PFP). They get the wow factor of ceramic chips at minimal expense.

Instead of the 5K chips we used plaques from Jacks which added a high stakes feeling
I have some of these plaques (T25K and T100K), my players LOVE them, although Jacks has also added a second line of plaques under their Jetsetter Poker Tour chipset. Unfortunately they only have T100K and T500K JPT plaques so that limits the scale of starting stack you can use in tournaments to get them in play. I've got my eyes on swapping the JPT in for my Millions tournament set eventually, but that's a while off.

Depends on whether tournaments are a big enough feature at a host's events to justify their own chipset.

Yeah I'm glad I got the plaques, they look classy and go along well with different chip sets. They also feel nice and have a great sound. Definitely takes the game up a notch.
