Looking for advice for a good first cash game set. wanting to play micro and small stakes games, 10c/25c 25c/50c and 50c/1 games.

Cut the 10c chip and play 25c/25c.

Then you have one less denom you need to purchase.

Also, what's your budget and how many players?

10 players max and around $600- $800.
Dont want to spend tons of money as dont really know what different chips are worth

What sort of price range should i expect to pay for mid range set of around 600 ish chips?

As for brands, I have Casino Royale purchased through Apache.

I found Chris' videos really helpful, and used them to plan, and order both tournament and cash sets. (there aren't 'tourney' Casino Royale, but using Mike's advice I don't have overlapping denoms.

600 chips can put you back from under $100 to well over $8000 depending on what you want.

At 30-40 cents a chip, cards mold ceramics have a low range price tag but a midrange feel. They are also fully customizable. To get more accurate details take a look to see if there are any active group buys going on. I think there may also be some artwork out there available.

Another option are the last chips Jim brought to us which were well used Paulsons, but they will need to be cleaned. I think they were priced around the same, maybe a bit more, you would have to find an alternative chip for a 25c chip though

You could future-proof with adding 20-25 X $100s

The cards mold ceramics from China are the best value for money (and fully customisable) in the low price range.
"China clays" are good quality only if supervised by @Apache, a very reputable vendor (so, Majestics, Royals, Bank).
"Real american casino clay" (compression) chips are outside you present budget, but I don't know a single person here who didn't eventually send their budget to Hell.
In that case, off-the-shelf CPCs are IMO the most peace-of-mind option (Atlantic Club, Rounders, American Eagle, and Key West; the latter offered by the name-sake very reputable vendor here).

I’m now $12K usd into this hobby. But the good news… chances are you won’t lose money.

My advice: get some semi custom ceramics from ABC and wait for a chiproom sale

100 Non-Denom is extremely helpful especially if you play a few different stake

Since I know you’re from NZ I am going through some of your past posts. I really like the idea of having the non denomination chips to use as fracs as your game changes. I have two cash game sets from jacks poker Australia. One is the Monte Carlo and the other is Port Royal. If I did it again I dont think I would get either of them. I was just starting out. I play in a local cash game here in Nelson and they just use the cheap dice chips. They work well. You can buy them for like 10 cents a chip on jacks poker or you can gets sets of them from whitcoulls I believe but only 4 colours. But if you want a good set, trust the advice that you will see on here often. Get samples. See my sample wall.

You could use a T5 base tourney set and divide all denoms by 100 to get your cash equivalent in a nickels game.

Nickles and dimes are awesome! They exist... even a rack of casino used pennies and it just sold!

This set goes down to the nickle (and dime) and they can be found, good luck woth the other denoms and just the nickles would likely break the OPs budget

BCC FOCs are not really a fan favorite around here but sometimes can be found for about $1 per chip (I paid $2 for many of mine)

They even have a couple different spotted versions

Unfortunately no pictures of the faces but our cards mold Taj tribute has nickles (the blue chips) about $.35 per chip to your door... but it takes a while

Recent group buy for the Mario chips from BR Pro ceramics had options down to a penny... ask me how I know lol about $.75 per chip to your door

Now if you want to send thousands and thousands on a micro set (which is awesome! But probably not very smart! Lol)

But as others have mentioned you can always use a non denominated chip for your lowest values as well (Corona Clubs to the left are played as nickles, not the same casino but same mold and spot pattern... works for me)

Microsoft can still be made with clay... but the budget for micro cash sets is not very realistic for $20 poker nights.

I would say Cards Molds or Ceramics are definitely the way to go on a pretty tight budget.

That's exactly what I've been watching. That's what I was referring to when I said they're either sold out or plastic. These are the best ones I've found within my current budget and they're always sold out. But I'll just keep watching.
