Hello PCF community,

My current cash set:

200 x .25
200 x 1
450 x 5
128 x 20
58 x 100

Counting some CPC extras on this list.

Would like to add on to accommodate a reasonable 2/5 set. Thoughts on adding:
200 x 5 (would allow 80 $5 chips for 8 players)
160 x 20
40 x 100
20 x 500 (don’t expect to see in play but good cushion)

Would appreciate any advice, thanks!

Not that I’ve ever played $2/$5, but I was trying a similar breakdown for a (hopefully) keeper set.

100/200/800/200-300/80(or 100)/20

Edit: for 8 players as well

As many $5s as you can! :)

I like thinking in terms of total bank required and work back from there... so a $2 /$5 with max 8 players (let's call it 10 for easy math and a cushion). With 200 x BB buy in, is $10,000 and multiply by 2 for rebuys for a total bank of $20,000. Looks like your break down works just fine.

I might be in the minority here but think too many chips is a pain when playing NL. I wouldn't think you would need any more $5s beyond the 450 you already have.

Booooo!!!

It truly depends on your players and how big the game gets. A majority of my sets are specifically built for 1/2 because that's my preferred stake for my home game, and each set has flexibility for 2/5. The last part is because the action can get intense -- @Grandmasturkey can back me confirm -- hardly any limping, and three- and four-bet action preflop is essentially the norm.

When I say it depends on your players, I think of my game. Virtually everyone one of my regs for my 1/2 games are also regs at our local casinos, so they play a lot of 2/5 there. Also, everyone straddles at my table, so the game immediately plays bigger than the 1/2 stakes and develops into a hybrid 2/5, where a $25-$30 preflop raise is the norm. Any rebuy or top off also has the option to match the big stack.

I go with six racks of $5s (bank of $3K), and two racks of $25s (bank of $5K), rack of hundos (bank of $10K) and a barrel of $500 (another $10K). Yes, that's a $28K bank, but it gives a lot of cushion. Think of it this way - most 2/5 games at a casino with a $1,500 max buy-in will have more than $10K-$12K spread around if it's a new table and everyone buys in for $1K to the max. It gets much bigger once the action settles in and others are allowed to match the big stack, like Harrah's KC and Hollywood Casino allow.

All that said, you should be safe with at least a $20K bank.

New here but not to this subject! I do t know why this older thread just showed up but I am going to give my more conservative response in case others come looking. Also interested in what you did and your feeling now.

Of course it depends on your game. Not only how big it plays but also would you rather have mountains of chips or a variety of colors in play. I think this set can accommodate any 1/2 or 2/5 game on one table of 10 with a 1,000 chips in one storage container. If you don't mind going over 1000 chips add a few more black or purple. If $18K is the most you will see on the table you could skip the purple and just get a rack of black. (but it's a perty color!)

100 white/blue $1, hard not to make this
600 red $5 ($3K)
200 green $25 ($5K)
80 black $100 ($8K)
20 purple $500 ($10K)
