What's interesting about these is that they're TRK Large Crowns. That's a mold that's not very common, and while it's not as widely desired as the TRK Small Crowns, a lot of us (like me!) think it's a particularly classy mold.

Most Large Crowns are hotstamped, as are these. There are some inlaid Large Crowns but they're pretty rare. So most people who have a Large Crowns set have hotstamps. EXCEPTION: Now that CPC can make Large Crowns (which just started a couple of years ago), people have been getting newly-made Large Crowns with custom inlays. But that's different from vintage sets like the one here.

You could mill these and put a label on them, but from an aesthetic standpoint I think most people would rather leave them as-is.

I don't think there's anything in particularly significant about the A-1. I couldn't find an example of this chip on Chipguide. Maybe someone else knows more about it, but it's probably just some hotstamp that some customer wanted on their chips.

If you want to see more chips like these, go to the Chipguide Query page at http://chipguide.themogh.org/cg_query.php and in the "Mold" box select "LCrown". Lots of different such chips have been found, but it's not all that common to find them in a playable quantity!

I agree with everything that @CrazyEddie said. Many people (I think) don't enjoy the Large Crown, but I find it very classy and underrated. I personally have a small 200 set (if I remember correctly) of someone's Large Crown chips from the late 50s. I found those on eBay. They are nice, older, but still have history behind them. That's the main reason I'm collecting a majority of the older stuff is because that is where the history is. That goes hand in hand with the Small Crown chips I've been gathering/buying too. Those older chips especially hot stamped have some of the most unique stamps ever. Some of them might not be leaded like everyone likes, but they are still original TRK chips. Those are chips you obviously can't get made anymore and the CPCs just aren't the same. Although if I ever gather the money or want to make a CPC Small Crown/Large Crown set one day I think I would. Go crazy with the edges pots and make a nice older style inlay to go along with it.

I do know that there are some people that do mill TRKs and that is all up to them if they want to. I myself personally wouldn't do it.
