MADE YA LOOK!!!

Whole set is pending.

This 300 Piece THC set was produced by Christy & Jones (C&J) and not Paulson.

The entire set is offered for dibs here for $550.
Split pricing in play if all accounted for will be:
  • $150 for red rack
  • $150 for blue rack
  • $250 for yellow rack.
  • $40 for the case.
Buyer to pay shipping cost to CONUS but cost to insure through a third party insurer is included in the pricing above.

These were advertised to me and I purchased them as Paulson THC but they are not.

I purchased the set with intentions of milling the yellow and making a frac. I've moved past doing milling myself and as such these should move past me as well.

All chips are non-denominated featuring a horsehead in horseshoe hot-stamp. Besides the obvious milling and relabel opportunity I think a great use of these is to add a blue or yellow non-denominated assigned value chip to a any Horseshoe or Binions set. Want a $2 chip? Here it is. Want a yellow 25c here it is. Maybe a blue or red 5c chip? Here it is.

The entire set has been cleaned with care. Edges were oiled lightly for the photo shoot as they have not been in play by me. They handle great and shuffle like butter.

They are very much THC nonetheless and can blend well with your THC or House Mold set.

Stamps are in good shape. Yellows are the most worn.

The blues don't match any Paulson blues I have but here are comparison chips for the various colors.

The yellow barrel is sharpest and tallest.
Difference in barrel height is about 1/3 chip between yellow and blue and a 1/4 chip between yellow and red.

What distinguishes C&J THC from Paulson THC chips? I have some of these chips in white, dark blue, and orange.
Nice. Same stamp you have?

Not unlike sexing day old chickens to an untrained eye the differences are imperceptible. So outside of this forum - no difference.

  • C&J are about a half gram lighter.
  • In solids not applicable - but in spots like 312 the bottom edge is different.
  • The cane is maybe longer than SCV and maybe more horizontal.
  • The hat is smoother and shinier.
  • They are larger in diameter but imperceptibly so. Maybe 40mm vs 39mm.
That’s all I’ve got…

Bill Christy and Bud Jones designed the original Top Hat & Cane mold in the mid-1950s. Burt Co. initially made the THC mold chips (along with HHL and Diamond mold chips) for Christy & Jones, using cups that were machined/polished (vs acid-etched), which created the 'shiny hat' effect. The mold cups for the Diamond and THC chips were sold to Paul-Son by Pat Sullivan after C&J was dissolved in 1965, but remained at Burt Co. who made THC chips for Paul-Son from 1964 until 1975, when the THC molds were transferred to Paul-Son. New colors specific only to chips supplied to Paul-Son were added during this time.

All of the C&J THC mold chips made by Burt Co. were long-cane version (LCV) and made with unleaded materials. Burt Co. also produced LCV chips for Paul-Son with molds that weren't polished (no shiny hats) and with SCV molds as well.

All of the Paul-Son produced molds were acid-etched but not polished, and their insert dies were more irregular than those used by Burt Co. Edge spots (inserts) on THC chips produced by Burt Co. were curved along the inner diameter, and the chips were also lighter, slightly thicker, and slightly larger diameter than the THC mold chips later produced by Paul-Son.

The C&J THC mold chips (all LCV), having been made by Burt Co., are slightly larger than 39mm and do not contain lead. The THC chips produced by Paul-Son (both LCV and SCV) contained lead from roughly 1975-1998 with some colors remaining leaded until 2005 or so. Both the LCV and SCV molds are still interchangeably used by GPI today, often producing Paulson brand chips with LCV markings on one side and SCV markings on the opposite side.

This..☝🏻🔥

I made my first chip purchase :cool in July on Electronic Bay dot com, based on what I read here on PCF. (tips cap to @Tommy)

They're the same stamp, so maybe these are C&J, maybe Paulson. I just finished ultrasonically cleaning them yesterday per @ski_ex5 excellent instructions and will oil them when they dry.

After that, it's just a matter of using them to dump huge pots on my friends and the cycle will be complete.
