Would like the opinion of anyone interested! I have a cool set of Paulson mint chips that I have been wanting to get into play in our 25/50 cent regular cash games. I have the standard 100 quarters and 200 ones with only one rack of fives that is a longshot to supplement, but I have been trying. This set also came with a rack of $10 chips, which is an oddball denomination but would make my bank plenty adequate.

The question is would it be an issue to use a $10 chip for you, especially when you know the host (me) has plenty of other options. I was thinking starting stacks for an $80 buy in could be 8x.25, 18x$1, 6x$5 and 3x$10. I could also use the $10's along with $5's for rebuys, and I have just acquired 15 $25 chips as well. Thoughts please thank you!

I use $10's for re-buys if folks prefer. Haven't run into any issues. I say go for it :)

It's a fine denom since you only have one rack of fives.

I agree on both accounts. Certainly use the rack of $10 chips so that you have enough bank. I would personally use all the $5 chips before putting the $10 into play and then use the $10 chips for rebuys as the night goes on. I would go with 8x.25, 18x$1, 12x$5 as starting stacks (for $80). Obviously if you have more than 8 people, you'll need to use the $10 chips from the start.

1. I dont see it as a problem
2. should probably post a WTB for the rack of 5s to supplement, you never know what this community has to offer

Sir,

I am all for it. FWIW, your a great host. Anytime I get to play at your house I try to take advantage of it. I don't give a shit if its 10.00 denominations, dice chips, fucking toohtpicks for that matter.

Lets rock and roll. If somebody bitches about it I'll gladly tell them to GTFO for you.

$10 makes a fine bank denomination for microstakes sets, IMO. Shouldn't be an issue.

While it wouldn't be my first choice, if the set needs the rack of tens to work - so be it. I would hate it as an intermediate chip in a 1/2 game but as the top value chip it should be acceptable.

Not the greatest pic of the Happy Knights.

100 $.10 SilverCity
100 $.25 Outpost
100 $.50 Aztar
300 $1 Aztar
320 $5 Silver Palace
100 $10 Happy Knights
20 $20 Palais des Congress

My goto, most versatile cash game set. I can spread almost anything with this set. Of course, I don't put all the denoms in play together. I got the rack of $10s when I was originally low on $5s just like you. Fortunately I was able to acquire more later. The $10s went in play only when all the $5s were out.

Ya this... ^

I play a weekly 1/2 cash game, raked, dealers, etc... They are using nexgen pro's (better than dice chips, slightly). The TD has a decent bank, but these games get crazy, and it's not uncommon to have two tables and avg stacks of $500. They use red fives, and have blue non-denom chips that they've elected to designate as $10 chips. These routinely get put into play. Just last night, I asked the TD why they just don't change the values of the blue chips to say $20, but his reply was "that would make sense, but this is just the way we've always done things, before I got here". I shrugged, said "ok, thanks for hosting, have a good night". It's not all that big of a deal, but it'd make more sense to use them as $20 chips (since there's no reason they couldn't).

In your situation, you have $10 chips, and as others have stated, it's not that big of a deal. There are more important things to worry about with hosting a game.

The very first set I ever had I designed myself. Including the denom break downs, lol. Not ideal, but it worked, lol.

Thanks guys, sounds like it's a go! FWIW they are these chips and I would love a rack of fives. Problem is I'd probably have to pay around $300 for 100 in today's bizarro market.

How many of the "50" chips do you have? We could always try a .50/1 game with a 100.00 buy in?

i'll take 'em ! oh, wait....

Two schools of thought, couple points to each:

Negatives:
-it can confuse players. Any time there is more than 3 colors on the table it seems there's those one or two guys who say "oh! I meant to bet 2 instead of 20!" or something similar...also, if alcohol gets involved, I feel like this chance exponentially grows.
-possibly slows down action due to making change more often. Sounds like this isn't the case since you have lots of 1s and 5s, but played in some games where we were constantly making change and it got old fast

Positives:
-keeps less chips in the middle therefor easier to push pots and arguable speeds up play (yes, in contrary to my last point)
-this is an illegal point, but I'll throw it out there: I used to play in a 5/10 nlhe game where there was a rake...and the house would grab a 10 chip whenever possible. Grabbing one blue chip versus 2 red chips is much less noticeable and the host would make a killing.
-lastly, and quite obviously IT'S WHAT YOU HAVE AND IT WORKS! :) I mean no rudeness when I say this. Casinos have all sorts of different denoms, and they're players deal with it. I bet your players don't mind the extra money on the table whether it's in $10, extra $5 chips, or even just cash! Most players I know like the bigger action and more money on the table.

I've got several other points about angle shooting with bigger chips, the one chip rule, etc., but these are the main ones. Play em and may the flop be with you!! :)

$10 chips are great to have.....and even better paired with some nice $2 chips (y)

I recently played in a cash game in a casino that used $2 chips that were blue with green and orange edgespots, and $25 green chips with orange and blue edgespots...needless to say I had more than one dirty stack...uhg

A friend bought a set of majestic's and went with $10 chips. I don't like em. I always trade em in asap.

I like $10 chips in 20-40 limit, and in 5-10NL or PL, but my OCD doesn't like it in smaller games.

came here to say exactly this. 20-40/40-80 limit? sure! but the minor OCD in me says no thank you in any other/smaller game.

I guess it depends on the blinds.
A nice composition to me for a $2-$4 table is:
$2
$10
$50
$100

We are very used to have 2-4 tables in small french casinos, and I hate so much to have $5's on a 2-4...
